Cap. 32: Welcome

As quickly as they realized that it was delivery time they hopped in the car and Eddy started driving to the hospital, while Brett called Jane. She wasn't due tonight but she clearly said to them to call when the time of delivering came.

Jane: "Hello, Eddy?"

She asked since Brett was calling with Eddy's phone

Brett: "No that's Brett...Eddy's driving, the baby is coming"

Jane: "Oh...ok, I'll be on my way, how often do the contractions occur?"

Brett: "About thirty minutes?"

Jane: "Ok we're still far away but it's a good thing that you're going to the hospital so that we can monitor you"

Her voice was calm and controlled, it was clear that she'd done this many times

Jane: "Remember to breathe and remain calm, especially Eddy, and we will meet in about twenty minutes at the hospital"

Brett: "Ok...see you later"

Brett ended the call and kept on breathing deeply

Eddy: "What did she say?"

Brett: "That you need to remain calm"

Eddy chuckled and shook his head. He knew Jane would have made this type of comment she just knew him too well.

Eddy: "I will, don't worry, how are you feeling now?"

Brett: "It's not too bad, but I guess the worse is yet to come"

Eddy: "Yeah I fear so too...but don't worry we will face this together, ok?"

Brett: "Ok...thank you Eddy...and...I love you"

He concluded taking Eddy's hand. He could see in that moment that Eddy's eyes were tearing up slightly, but it was all for the best. They loved each other and they would soon have raised a baby.

Eddy: "I love you too"

Few minutes later Eddy pulled his car in his private parking spot and helped Brett getting off.

Jane was already waiting for them at the entrance of the E.R. with a wheel chair and a couple of nurses.

Jane: "Welcome future mama, how are you feeling?"

She asked as Brett carefully sat on the chair

Brett: "I had better moments..."

Jane: "Don't worry it'll be over soon. In about thirty minutes we will prepare you for the emergency c-section. While we talk two of my team are preparing the operating room"

Brett nodded pursing his lips and unconsciously placing a hand on the belly. He was tensed, he was the one who had to undergo an operation, and mostly he feared for the future born.

Jane: "We will put you in a room while we wait, ok? Let's go"

The two nurses quickly strolled the whell chair toward the room they were assigned and they took their leave with Jane.

Eddy: "How are you feeling?"

Brett: "Don't know...what should we name the baby?"

He asked in a poor attempt to change the subject. Eddy didn't bat an eye and just took one of Brett's hands and sat near him on the bed

Eddy: "If it's male maybe...Raymond? Like your grandpa?"

Brett: "Yeah not bad...and if it's female?"

Eddy contemplated it for a minute and his eyes teared up once again while his lips curved in a sad smile
