Ayesha was pacing here and there, restlessness crashing over her in waves as she clasped her hands trying to control the shivers racing down her spine.

Only 1 hour was left for her birthday but she was not happy, not at all but why.....

She sat on the couch and drank water. Her hands were were trembling violently and the glass slipped from her grasp. Her heart raced. Suddenly her eyes started tearing up. She was shocked to the core because she didn't know why the hell she was crying. She wiped her tears and picked up the phone and called her father.

After 2 rings he picked it up.

Ayesha took a deep breath and moved a lock of her hair behind her ear.

Baba!!!

Ayesha said trying to sound normal, her heart pounding restlessly.

Assalamualaikum!!

Ayesha greeted Adnan, her voice soft

Walaikum assalam.

Ayesha heard Adnan,s voice from the other side, her fingers tightening over the phone as she felt the unsettling feeling gnawing at her insides.

Baba dadu (grandma) kaisi hain?

Ayesha asked, her voice soft, masking the concern that lingered just beneath the surface.

She's fine.... For now.
Ayesha heard Adnan,s voice.

She'll be fine right?

Ayesha asked, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and hope

Bas dua karo.

Ayesha heard Adnan saying. Ayesha,s grip tightened over the phone, her knuckles turning white from the intensity of her grip

Okay.

Ayesha said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Take care. ALLAH HAFIZ.

Ayesha wished and was about to cut the call but stopped hearing Adnan.

Princess.

Ayesha heard Adnan from the other side, her heart skipped a beat.

Ji.

Ayesha said, her voice soft.

Happy birthday.

Adnan wished her. Ayesha let out a small smile.

Thank you.
Ayesha thanked Adnan, a barely there smile playing on her lips.
