Okay so this story was written in twenty minutes as like a english class assignment so I did and my teacher loved it so much she gave me student of the month! First time for everything right? Hahaha! Enjoy :D
Coldest days in winter. It's been about three months since I've seen Ethan. He left without a word or a letter. I'm out in the cold just waiting. Just waiting to see him. I can't help but say this is my fault. I mean, he took the blame for me. He took that risk for me. He's done everything for me. And now hes gone. As the wind blows across my face and the snow settles into my thin sweater a tear has shed. First tear since he left. Took me a month and a half to even leave my house, let alone my room. First time being outside in so long the cold doesn't bother me. Makes me feel at peace. This quietness is soothing me as well. I hear footsteps from a far and it scares me. I turn around quickly to see its Aaron. My brother. He's quiet so I won't be startled so bad.
"So I see you're outside." he sat down on the step next to me.
"I guess... It feels good." I looked back towards the main road.
"He'll come back," he said. "He would never just leave without a reason." He was staring me down.
"How do you know this? How can you be so sure? He just left Aaron! He left me because it's my fault." I started to feel a lump in my throat and warm tears in my eyes.
"He didn't just leave without saying goodbye-"
"Yes he did.. Not even a letter..." I wiped a tear from the corner of my eye.
"He did leave a letter. But.. Promise me you won't freak out.." I nodded. "Dad took the letter and hid it. I was there when he thought nobody was looking. Do you want to see it?" He reached his hand out to me.
I nodded my head once more. I was shocked, angry, and I just felt betrayed. No. Betrayed wouldn't even come to mind for how I felt. My dad. The one who cared. I grabbed Aaron's hand and we walked into the house through the long hallways and into dad's office. It smelt like betrayal, but much worse.
Aaron walked around dad's work desk and opened the draw and shook it three times. A letter fell to the floor with a low thump. He picked it up and walked to me slowly. He handed me the letter and walked away. I hesitated at first on whether I was ready or not. Then I opened it and dropped the envelope to the floor. I unfolded and began to read:
"Dear WInter,
I know you may know this already but I love you, I have always loved you. Your father doesn't approve. He threatened me several times but I refused to leave for your safety. I'm going away for a couple of months. I will be back. Just know your father isn't safe... Aaron promised me he would take care of you. I love you.
-Ethan"
I dropped the letter and heard a gun click. I turned around to see my dad with blood on him. I screamed. "Why is there blood on you?!" I took three steps back.
"Everything I did," he said. "Everything I did was for you." he walked closer and closer to me.
"You put me through hell for the past three months dad! Three months! Did you think you making him go away would help me?" I shouted at him, tears still streaming down my face.
"He killed your mother! How could you still care about him?! He broke this family apart!" he kicked the old desk chair and it flung into the desk and tipped over.
"You want the truth? He," I hesitated for a second. "He wasn't driving the car that night... I was... It was raining and we were just messing around and it swirved and we didn't see mom and she was walking from her job and, and , and it was a mistake and it was.. I tried to turn! I tried! I was in shock I couldn't move! I just, he took me out the driver's seat and took the blame but it was by accident." I looked in his eyes and saw the same sadness I saw that day. It had came back. I had ripped my dad's heart out of his chest again.
"You killed your mother? You looked me in the eyes amd never told me that you killed your mother?" he picked up his hand gun and aimed it at me. "If I can't live happily then neither can you. I rather you die then live." he put the gun to my forehead.
"Kill me then. Without Ethan I am nothing." I shed one last tear as I looked my dad in the eyes and then it happened. There was a gun shot. Faint but close. Blood splattered all over my face. My dad had been shot in the head. I watched him fall to the floor. When I looked up I saw Ethan standing in the doorway with a gun in his hand.
"Ethan?" I rubbed my eyes to make sure it was really him. "Ethan! It really is you!" I said as he walked over to me. He grabbed a tissue from my dad's work desk and wiped my whole face with it.
"I told you I would come back." he said as he gave me a hug. I felt my self began to shake just by his very touch. "It's okay," he said as he kissed my fore head. "Sshh it's okay. I'm here now." He rubbed my back as my shake started to settle to stillness.
"Wait! He had blood on him! Are you shot?! Are you okay?!" I paniced pulling back to look at his body for a gun wound.
"Winter! I'm fine calm down." he grinned. "It's okay. It was just Aaron he got a minor flesh wound near his left shoulder when he was fighting off your dad. He'll be okay. We called 911 and the ambulance. He's gonna be fine. I told you I would come back. I would never let anybody hurt you." He put his hand on my chin and I looked up into his eyes. "I have been waiting to do this for eight years Winter." The moment his lips touched mine I felt assureness in my life. I know I may have lost my one and only mother and my betrayer of a dad but I know things can only get better from here. With my brother, Aaron and my boyfriend, Ethan I won't have to go through things alone.
