After staring at the handsome man in the blue blue sky for 3 hours, y/n starts getting ready to go to school. She showers and puts on her school uniform, lightly spraying herself with her favourite perfume ('child' by Susan D. Owens). She sighs while looking at herself in the mirror. Another day of school and work, when were things going to get interesting? Perhaps the crinkle-eyed cutie would appear somewhere other than the moon...

ring ring, the high school bell plays out, signalling the end of the day. She starts to feel relieved but then realises she has to check into work in exactly an hour. Y/n works at Poundland- a dollar tree down her street. She rushes out the school gates and skims the parking lot for her stepmother. Ever since her parents separated and her father started seeing that horrid woman, she had insisted on appearing in every aspect of her life. Y/n didn't like her very much and she sensed that the feeling was mutual. Her stepmother only carried out these small gestures to impress her father- who didn't seem to care about y/n anyway. However, she never let her troubled childhood affect her (she was different like that). She hopped in the car and slipped in her Airpods, drowning out whatever distractions and problems that were currently in her life. Daydreaming about the bright red moon man seemed to help her escape.

Y/n ran into Poundland out of breathe. Ugh, she thought, I'm late again. She really hoped her manager wouldn't be too upset.

"Hi, sorry I-," she began.

"Enough of the excuses y/n, if you're late again, don't bother coming back," her manager huffed, filling y/n with a great sense of shame.

She stared at her feet, "Understood". She slipped behind the counter and began assisting customers.

"A bit harsh ey babs?"

She looked up to see a man with delicate pale hair, crinkled eyes, a red beard, a dark green hoodie, dungarees, and a flashing smile

She looked up to see a man with delicate pale hair, crinkled eyes, a red beard, a dark green hoodie, dungarees, and a flashing smile. For the first time in her life y/n didn't know what to say- it was the man in the moon! Had he come for her at last? She realised she had been staring at him for a little too long and quickly looked away.

"Uh I- what do you mean?" She silently cursed herself. THAT was the best response she could fathom?

"I heard you getting scolded over there baby cakes, are you ok?" he responded. Y/n couldn't help but be a little shocked by the tone and careful words in which this man spoke to her. She had never been spoken to in such a concerned manner- what with her careless father, absentee mother and fake stepmother. There was a way in his words that made her feel safe, almost as if she could open up and tell this man anything.

"Oh, ha yes, I'm ok. There was a good reason for her attitude, I always seem to rock up to work late," she shyly answered, scuffing her shoe back and forth along the floor.

"Ah I see, still- you look like you could need some cheering up," he winked at me- causing a clicking sound in its wake. I looked around for the source of the noise before realising it was his eyelid. It was odd but strangely hot.

"Anyhow babs, I have something for you," he added. Y/n was confused by this statement. Had this man brought gifts? He slid a paper object from the pocket of his dungarees, and with further inspection, she realised it was his resume.

"You'd like to work here?" she asked. She couldn't fathom why a man (seemingly) in his 40's would want to work at Poundland for $16 an hour.

"Yes sweetie pie," he tenderly responded. She blushed at this, turning an obvious shade of red that nearly (but not quite) matched his cheeks.

"Stop with the nicknames!" she laughed.

"Why?" He flirtatiously retaliated. There was a brief pause where neither of them knew what to say and stared into each others eyes. Clicky-eye man broke the silence.

"What is that perfume you're wearing? It's wonderful," he asked.

"Oh," she blushed again while turning to the counter, "It's called Child by Susan D. Owens". His smile seemed to grow particularly wide at the name.

"Are you a child?"

She was a little taken aback at his response, but flattered nonetheless. He wanted to know more about her!

"Yes I'm 16", she uttered.

"Wonderful..." he mutters, almost unfathomable to the human ear.

"What was that?" y/n asks.

"Nothing," he deviously smiles, "what is your name?"

"Y/n," she grins. She couldn't help but feel excited. Could this man want to get to know her?

"I'm Paul. Paul Breach," he states proudly, a crinkle lifting below his eye. "You may know me..."

"Uh...I don't think I do sorry, have we met before Paul?"

"Wow... you haven't seen my Tiktok account?" Paul seemed genuinely stunned by the statement. Was this man famous? She blushed further, a famous person wanted to know her?

"No sorry... I don't use my phone often." Once again, y/n was a unique girl. He stared at her for a minute, almost taking in her features.

"Well it was nice talking to you pretty babs, I must be going now. Make sure to give that to the manager yeah?" he asks gently. She realises she is still holding his resume.

"Of course. Will I see you again?" she scolded herself at the obviousness of her statement. She shouldn't give this handsome, dungareed, older man the idea that she liked him just yet.

"Of course babs, your gorgeous blonde hair would be too much to stay away from," he winked, and with that, turned in his step and walked away- his phone pressed firmly to his ear. She couldn't remember when he had called someone- but nonetheless he seemed like a busy man so she didn't question it. She burnt up at the sheer flirt within his words. He liked her hair? She lightly touched her blonde locks, smiling as she did. Perhaps this was the exciting moment she had been waiting for all her life.
