Later we got off the train and Harry still hadn't returned and we didn't see him anywhere else.

"Where's Harry?" I said.

"He's probably on the platform. Come on," Hermione said as we walked into the school.

"Names," Professor Flitwick said as we walked through the gate.

"Professor you have been our teacher for 6 years," I said confused.

"I know L/N but we can't take any chances," Professor Flitwick said.

"Why all the beefed-up security," I said.

"I can't tell you that top secret," Professor Flitwick said.

"What can you say," I asked.

"Congratulations on becoming your house perfect for this year, same to you Miss Granger," Professor Flitwick said and I smiled.

"Thank you professor," Hermione said before we moved on.

We got to the great hall and still Harry was nowhere in sight he didn't even show up during the sorting ceremony for the new students. Like me Hermione was beginning to get worried and we were not feeling like eating without knowing if Harry was okay or not, Ron on the other hand.

"Will, you, stop, eating, your best friend is missing," Hermione said as she hit Ron with a book after each word.

"Why won't you turn around, you lunatic?" Ron said we see Harry walking in.

"He's covered in blood again. Why is it he's always covered in blood?" Ginny asked.

"Looks like it's his own this time," Hermione said as if it made a difference.

"Where have you been?" I asked.

"What happened to your face?" Hemione said.

"Later. What did I miss?" Harry said.

"The Sorting Hat says we ought to be brave and strong in these troubled times. Easy for it to say, though. It's a hat, isn't it?" Ron said as I shook my head in disappointment.

"Very best of evenings to you all. First off, let me introduce the newest member of our staff.
Horace Slughorn. Professor Slughorn, I'm happy to say, has agreed to resume his old post... as Potions Master. Meanwhile, the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts... will be taken by Professor Snape," Dumbledore said.

"At least one person gets what they what after all this time," I said and Hermione got a weird look on her face for some reason.

"As you know, each and every one of you was searched upon your arrival here tonight. And you have the right to know why. Once, there was a young man. Like you, sat in this very hall. Walked this castle's corridors. Slept under its roof. He seemed, to all the world, a student like any other. His name: Tom Riddle. Today of course, is known all over the world by another name. Which is why as I stand, looking out upon you all tonight, I'm reminded of a sobering fact. Every day, every hour, this very minute, perhaps... dark forces attempt to penetrate this castle's walls. But in the end, that greatest weapon... is you. Just something to think about. Now off to bed, pip pip," Dumbledore said.

"That was cheerful," Said Ron as we all stood.

"You think this new Potions Master will be any good," I asked Hermione.

"I hope," Hermine said.

"What do you mean," I asked.

"I just hope that we have a teacher teacher this year," Hermione said.

"Yeah I get what you mean," I said.

It was the next day and I was in my first class potions I may not like this class but Hermione did say that I would need to pass it in order to become an Auror like my father. It was a few moments into the lesson as Slughorn explained the importance of ingredient prep when Ron and Harry entered grabbing Slughorn's attention.

"Harry, my boy, I was beginning to worry. You brought someone with us, I see," Slughorn said.

"Ron Weasley, sir. But I'm dead awful at Potions. A menace, actually so. I'm probably just gonna...," Ron said as he tried to leave Harry stopping him.

"Nonsense, we'll sort you out. Any friend of Harry's is a friend of mine. Get your books out," Slughorn said.

"I'm sorry, sir, I haven't actually got my book yet and nor is Ron," Harry said.

"Not to worry, get what you want from the cupboard. Now as I was saying, I prepared some concoctions this morning. Any ideas what these might be? Yes, Miss...?" Slughorn said as Hermione put her hand up.

"Granger, sir," Hermione said.

"That one there is Veritaserum. It's a truth-telling serum. And that one. It's terribly tricky to make. This is Amortentia. The most powerful love potion in the world. It's rumoured to smell differently to each person according to what attracts them. For example, I smell... Freshly mown grass and new parchment and... Spearmint toothpaste," Hermione said as I realised that was my toothpaste.

"Now Amortentia doesn't create actual love. That would be impossible, but it does cause powerful infatuation or obsession. And for that reason, it is probably the most dangerous potion in this room," Slughorn said covering the potion as a few girls stood back.

"Sir, you haven't told us what's in that one?" Pasncy said.

"Ah yes. What you see before you, ladies and gentlemen is a curious little potion, known as Felix Felicis. But it is more commonly known referred to as--" Slughorn said.

"Liquid luck," Hermione and I said.

"Yes, Miss Granger. And Mr L/N Liquid luck. Desperately tricky to make, disastrous should you get it wrong. One sip and you'll find that all of your endeavours succeed. At least until the effects wear off. So this is what I offer each of you today. One tiny vial of liquid luck to the student who in the hour that remains, manages to brew an acceptable Draught of Living Dead. Recipes for which can be found on page 10 of your books. I should point out however. Only one set of student manages to brew a potion of sufficient quality to claim this prize. Nevertheless, good luck to you all. Let the brewing commence," Slughorn said and we all sprang to action.

"Good luck, we could really use that potion," I said.

"May the best student win," Hermione said.

"I intend to," I said and Hermione giggled.
