And before telling you, he'd proceed by asking you not to tell his girlfriend, Camille. But no, she wasn't the answer. Maybe in another life, she might have been. A life where he hadn't met her. Unlike Gabriel, who was rooted in one place with his chef dream, Dorothea was constantly moving, searching for a new adventure, a new challenge, and her gaze had picked him as her next target.
Like Apollo and Daphne, he was destined to live in love to a girl who would not have him. But perhaps now that she's gone, his heart can begin to mend again, to relearn what it's like to live without her and cope.
Which he does begin to do. He moves upwards with his career dreams, and he starts dating a blonde artist who is wonderful to him. But if Gabriel genuinely believed Dorothea would be gone forever, he was sorely mistaken. For one day when he leaves his apartment to meet up with his new American friend, Dorothea Makris is standing right there.
Gabriel hesitates between running away and kissing her. But he can't. He's got a new life now, with a new girlfriend. He doesn't want that thrill anymore, and he doesn't love Thea. Not anymore.
He tosses in bed and curses. As if he had ever stopped.
