Icicle Senior used his ice gun to ruin what was once a peaceful day in Coast City; he was about to send a blast towards a group of children who had been playing on the playground. But a green shield protected the children from the blow.
"I have to admit, I wasn't expecting such a cold reception this morning." My mentor says as I silently use my power to move everyone in the area away from the danger, making sure that Hal doesn't see me using my power ring for anything other than flight.
Hal for some reason, even after all these years of working together, still doesn't like when I use my ring's power on the field for anything other than occasionally healing or powering up his ring.
I often envied my protege friends for the trust and familial bond they seem to have with their mentors.
That's why I often leave my sector to help other Blue Lanterns and other Lantern Corps, so I can actually get a chance to use my power.
I brought it up to the Elders of my lantern corp, but they say that they cannot get involved with the affairs of two bonded power rings.
Why couldn't I have bonded with a different green lantern from my sector?! I would have happily taken Guy Gardener at this point.
Sighing I just float to the side, scanning the perimeter for any possible civilians as my mentor fights Icicle Senior.
After 5 minutes, I'm finally bored and decide that it's time to end this since my mentor clearly just wanted to show off. Again.
Today was what the other proteges referred to as "the day". Couldn't Hal choose to showboat another time?
Sneaking up behind, Icicle Senior, I gently tap on the shoulder and Icicle Senior turns his head right into my sucker punch, getting knocked out cold.
"Hey! I had that!" GL whined as he landed beside Icicle Senior and motioned for the police to come over and arrest the unconscious villain.
"You were showboating again." I say dryly. "Extending the fight as long as you did was unnecessary and could have led to civilians getting hurt."
"None did because it's your job to keep them safe." He says pointing at me and it takes everything in me not to roll my eyes at him. Sometimes I felt like his mentor more so than he felt like mine.
"Indeed." I say in a serious tone. Saving the innocent is why I got into this gig and is the reason I put up with the green lantern in front of me.
"We better get going, we wouldn't want to keep Batman waiting." I say floating up in the air.
"No, we wouldn't. That guy is scary." Hal says and joins me in the air. Together the two of us fly towards the Hall of Justice.

GL and I arrived in a small clearing near the Hall of Justice where the dynamic duo and the archers were already waiting.
"Glad you could join us, Green Lantern, Blue Lantern." Batman greeted us.
"I can't believe it has finally come!" Robin gushes excitedly; it was times like this that I remember that the tiny computer genius is only thirteen years old. I smiled fondly at him.
"Blue." Speedy said to me, sending a curt nod my way which I returned.
Him and I had a very special bond. Him and I, not being very open people found solace in each other. He trusted me with his true desires when it came to joining the league and I shared my feelings about my mentor with him.
