[Verse]
A group of friends, who swore they'd all stay in touch,
Leaving their little home town, all for adventures of their own,
A girl who met a boy, she had known him her whole damn life,
Though he had never said how to him she'd always feel like home,
[Chorus]
She smiled his way, and he smiled too,
Little did they know how fast things would travel soon,
[Verse]
Years go by, those kids are so much older now, with their lives behind them,
Some with kids of their own, others making ends meet as they may,
Luck would have it, when they met again,
With so little and too much left to say,
[Chorus]
She smiled his way, and he smiled too,
But time, it seemed, had other plans and took them away too soon,
[Verse]
A group of friends, they returned to that little home town, from lives of their own,
They hadnt seen each other in years, and seemed to hardly recognise those they once cared for,
A girl who had met a boy, now laid to rest, she had dreams of love and more,
And now he stood nearby, his home no longer as he hoped for something more,
[Chorus]
And he recalled how she smiled his way, he smiled this time, just one last,
Knowing he could never do so again, he did, no matter how painful a task.
