The Host

Chapter 10

I walk down the hall, going to talk to Jeb, when someone grabs me. The Seeker. She puts her hand over my mouth and knocks me out.

I wake up in a room surrounded by white.
"Seeker! Come out where I can see you," I yell.
She comes into the room.
"Why did you bring me here?"
"We need you," she says.
"Liar."

"I heard you're going to have a kid," she says, smiling evily.
"Why do you care?" I ask.
"I want it to become a Soul."
"No. And you expect me to stay here for a little less than a month?"
"Yes. And in half a year, you can see the gender of your baby."

"I can wait nine months to find out if it means I get to go home," I say.
"That's not going to happen," she says.

Melanie's POV

Jamie and I are talking when Jeb comes to us, looking worried.
"Have you seen Wanda?" he asks us.
"No," we say.
"Have you asked Logan or Ian?" I ask.

"They're looking for her too," Jeb says.
"What if the Seeker took her?" I ask.
"I think she did."
"But she's pregnant."
"What?!?" they both demand.
"Pretend I never told you that."
Jared, Ian, Logan and Sara run into the room, scanning the room.

"We couldn't find her," Logan says, walking to us.
"The Seeker took her, I know it," Jeb says.
"I hate to say it, but I think you're right."
Then I notice that Jamie and Jeb are giving weird looks at Ian.
"Stop staring at me Jeb and Jamie!" Ian shouts.

"Yeah, I may have told them the news," I admit.
"You don't think the Seeker knows, do you?" Jared asks.
This won't be good, not one bit.
"She could be in so much trouble," Ian says.

"We need to go and get her," Sara says.
"Not all of us," Logan says.
"Who will go?"
"Definitely me and Ian."
"I'm coming too," Jared adds.
"Then the three of us will go," Ian says.

"Does anyone notice that they're all boys?" Jamie asks.
"Yeah, why is that?" Sara asks.
"Because we don't want any of you to get hurt," Ian says.
"We've gotten this far," I say.
The boys shake their heads and leave. They think that we're weak, we can't handle things.

But I'm nervous for the boys, I want them to come back with Wanda. And I want them all be well.
