Chapter 1

(Rin's prov)

Life. I hate it! So much pain and sadness. It makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry. I used to have no problems at all. Until I got older.

"Miss Kagamine!" I wake up with a startle. I look around and I see that I'm in my classroom. My head hurts and my desk has a puddle of drool on it.

"Miss Kagamine!" I look up only to find my teacher staring at me with an angry face.

"Yes?" I say with fear.

" You need to pay more attention in class!" He says angrily.

"Yes sir." I respond quietly.

I look around the room to see all my classmates staring at me. Well except for my "brother" Len who is staring out the window. I look at him. I can't see his face but I can tell he is sad. Suddenly the bell rings and everyone gets up and leaves the classroom, except Len.

I walk over to him and sit down in a chair next to him.

He looks up at me with a sad expression.

"Rin," he says to me. I wait for him to say something else but he just hides his face from me. I look at him hoping he will talk to me, but he suddenly stands up and walks away. I reach my hand out to him but its too late.

Me and Len used to be able to tell each other anything. We had a strong connection. We are Identical. We both have short blond hair and light blue eyes. We used to be the same height but now that we're older Len is a little taller than me. You could say we are twins but we aren't. A long time ago me and Len were orphans and all we had was ourselves. When I was afraid Len would sing to me and some how it comforted me. We used to not have the same last name. When we were adopted my last name was changed to the same one as Len's, Kagamine.

I walk out of the school and stand at the corner of the road and wait for my "sister" Miku to pick up me and Len, but I don't see Len anywhere. Miku's car pulls up right where I'm standing.

" Hey Rin!" She said happily. " Where is Len?"

"I don't know." I say as I climb into the back seat. Then out of the school comes Len running as fast as he can and jumps into the car.

" There you are Len! What took you so long?" Miku asks. Len just sits there looking at his feet. Seeing that he isn't going to respond, Miku starts to drive out of the parking lot.

" I forgot to tell u guys but Meiko wants you to record today but I'm not sure if its a duet it a solo." Miku informs us. Len and I are part of a group called vocaloid. We were adopted into the family by Miku. She was the one who first found us in the orphanage. When she found out that we could sing, she asked Mekio, who started vocaloids, if we could join the family. At first Mekio didn't like the idea but when she saw how we could be twins she agreed to keep us but changed my last name to Kagamine so me and Len would seem like twins. Only I don't think of Len as my brother I can tell that he's more than that to me.

The car pulls up our house. A three story mansion. I open the door when Neru, one of the vocaloids, runs right past me with Teto , a vocaloid who used to be a utauloid, chasing her. I walk in and I see all of the other vocaloids in the living room . Gapuko is siting on a big chair in the corner of the room while Luka is sitting on his lap taking to him. Kaito, Miku's boyfriend,is sitting on the couch with a laptop and Gumi is watching him while Meiko is leaning against the wall.

" We're back from school!" Miku shouts as we walk in. Kaito jumps up and runs over to Miku as she leaps into his arms,he spins and she laughs. I watch with an empty feeling. Meiko comes over to Len and I and pulls out a piece of paper.

" You two are suppose to record the duet that Len wrote for our new album." She says sternly.

I get excited because it will give me a chance to spend some time with Len! We have been slipping for a while. We used to do everything together, and we even shared a room, but because Meiko wanted us to act as twins she moved Len into a room across the hall. When we started high school we got split up, because we were known as twins so we had no classes together. Eventually we made other friends and spent less time together. The world has been ripping us apart!

"Alright you better go and record." Meiko says to us. We nod and start to walk to the recording studio.

We walk silently side by side. I see his hand and have the urge to reach out and hold it but I resist. I look at Len's face and notice that he still looks upset.

"Len?" I ask " What were you going to tell me at school today?" He looks at me and then looks away.

" It's nothing really Rin." He says facing away from me.

" But, you look upset!" I say to him.

" Rin I'm fine!" He shouts a little angry now which scares me . He notices that he scared me and had a bit if a shocked expression. I feel my face get hot like I might cry.

We finally reach the recording booth and we walk inside. I turn on the headphones and start up the recorder.

"Rin?" I hear Len say as I fix the microphones.

"What is it?" I ask surprised as I turn to face him and our eyes lock. We stand still for what seems like forever. Then he grabs my hand and holds it tightly. I feel my face getting warmer and we are inches away from each other. I rest my other hand in the table behind me and he leans his head in really close. My hand slips and hits a button on the table causing an awful screech to come from the speakers. We jump back and I quickly turn it off. I can tell that I'm blushing and I look at Len who's face also looks a little red.

" Well, we should probably start recording" he says nervously and walks over to his microphone. I stand there, wishing that we could still have the same connection that we used to.
