Your POV:
I just wanted to go home at this point. The day ended the way no one wanted it to end but that's the reality of these things, they happen. It is sad but I can't let that rule my life. Jethro and I were sat in the tower together. I was comfortable in my chair to the point I began to fall asleep.*falls asleep*
The day began off calm, then the call that everyone dreaded came through. My heart sank. Jethro and I raced down to the water for this rescue. Not one of us stoped, we just carried on. Reidy and a few others came racing down with the defib. We grabbed our boards and headed straight into the water, paddling out as quick as we could. The two of us got to the scene and the lifeless body just laid there. Thankfully, a passerby had stopped, pulled the body onto their board and began CPR.
The poor lady was in a bad way, my hopes weren't high but I kept a positive mind. We got the passer-by to slowly get us back to shore while one of us continued cpr. Reidy helped me drag the patient onto the sand after we got to shore and walked up away from the water. Everyone that was there stepped in and we got to work while we waited for the ambo to turn up.
Singlets got the defib ready for us to shock the patient if needed. I stopped cpr for a second while they checked her pulse. Nothing. "Come on!" Jethro mentioned as him and singlets got the defib ready to shock her. Just as he was about to shock her the girl began to breathe again before we could shock her heart. "She's breathing!" I said telling them all. "We've got a pulse." Reidy said as he was helping us. We all sighed in relief but what we didn't know this wasn't the end of all of this.
Moments passed and the defib began to make a noise. "She's got no pulse." Singlets exclaimed making us all panic. "We need more help here. She's got no pulse." I shouted. I began CPR immediately and Jethro began to do mouth to mouth. Luckily Reidy was nearby and helped us out. Hoppo came down to help us all. "Guys, I think she has a gash to her head as there's blood." He mentioned. Oh no. Hoppo got a bandage and just placed pressure on the wound while we continued to save her life.
This feels like it's taking forever.
There was no improvement. "She's got no pulse. I think we might have to call it shortly." Jethro said. "Not until the paramedics have been." I said continuing with cpr. Jethro took over from me as I was beginning to get tired. We all began to work on her to try save her life.
Thankfully the medics turned up and began to take over. We got asked questions which were easily answered. Nothing was improving so we all thought the worst. No signs of life. We all looked at each other giving one another that look. Hoppo nodded. The medics stopped cpr and stood back. Damn it. I looked at Jethro and we both had the same look on our faces. "You did what you could and that's all we could have done." Jethro said patting my back. I nodded my head.
*wakes up*
I woke up with Jethro next to me. He looked over at me. "You good?" He asked. "Yeah, you?" I asked back. "Yeah, just can't wait to get home." He said making me laugh a little.
