Jinx was finally captured and sent to prison. After visiting and to her own surprise managing to get through to her sister, Vi went to the council and convinced them to put Jinx in Cait's care and she'd take the sentence, much to Caitlyn's chagrin. It got even worse when the sentence turned out to be death. The council, not wanting to lose a top enforcer, gave Vi the chance to back down, but she wouldn't. After not being able to make her budge, they gave her some time to say goodbye to Caitlyn and Jinx, had Cait take Jinx home, and Vi went to a cell willingly, awaiting her fate the next day.
To her confusion, though, the warden came into her cell late that night, told her she was free to go, and that she was to pick up her sister and take her home. "Welp, they chickened out," Vi thought as she changed back into her street clothes. On the way out, she ran into a sad-looking Caitlyn. Her first thought was that Cait had pulled some strings to get her out of this. Indeed, she had, but when Cait looked at her tearing up, kissed her like she never had before, and told her to take good care of her sister, Vi felt like someone was twisting a knife in her chest as she realized exactly how. Vi tried not to cry as she hugged her for the last time and thanked her for everything, but didn't exactly succeed. After finally forcing herself to let her go, she watched until her girlfriend disappeared around the corner, knowing full well that would be the last time she'd see her alive.
When she got to the Kiramman house to get her sister, Jinx was quiet. She was quiet until they got to Vi's appointment, when she broke down and begged her sister not to hate her for this. Vi, being Vi, just hugged her super close and assured her that could never happen. With what was about to take place the next day, Jinx was going to be all she had.
The next day came and sadly for everyone, everything went as expected. Piltover lost one of its finest sheriffs. Vi did her best to appear okay-ish for Jinx, but the attempts were kind.of pathetic, though it was a small consolation to know that Cait hadn't felt anything.
Jinx was far from herself, quiet as the night before. She stayed like that for the next couple days, scared that it was just a matter of time before Vi would start to miss Caitlyn and start to resent her for causing the whole situation. To her surprise, though, Vi just seemed to love on her more every day. Slowly, Jinx' fear started to fade. She started talking more, smiling, finding ways to make Vi laugh, even asked her to start calling her Powder again, which Vi was happy to do. She felt more and more secure about this being permanent, and Cait's words just before walking out the door, "You'll be sorry" played themselves less and less in her head by the day.
Well, until after Cait's funeral. Vi was in not too good of a mood, as could be expected, but she didn't turn cold, especially not to Powder. No, the real hell came at night. Nightmares quickly took over her sleep of Caitlyn beating her, choking her, riddling her with bullets. Sometimes, she'd even find herself accidentally shooting Vi! Vi would always wake her up and be looking to comfort her, but how could she tell her sister about seeing the woman she'd been so in love with violently attacking her in her dreams? As if that wasn't bad enough, the dreams always felt so real, especially the ones about her being attacked. Sometimes, she even felt like there were hands on her throat for a few seconds after waking up.
It got even worse when she started hearing Caitlyn during the day. At first, Powder thought she was like her other voices, but she could pretty much tune them out whenever Vi was around. Caitlyn just seemed to talk more when Vi was home. She was always reminding Powder how SHE should be the one having dinner with Vi, walking through town with her, making her laugh, and how POWDER should be the one six feet under in the cemetery. The longer it went on, the worse it got, and Powder didn't know how much more of this she could take!
Finally, after a couple weeks of this, she felt like it had gotten to be too much for her. While Vi was at work one day, Powder put a note on her sister's pillow apologizing and saying she loved her, then went to her own room with a kitchen knife. The plan wasn't too complicated, she'd just open her stomach and the blood flow would do the rest. Sitting on the bed, she took a breath, then looked down and aimed the knife. As things turned out, though, she wouldn't even draw a single drop of blood, and Vi would come home to find her sitting on the couch waiting for her, because just as she was about to drive the knife in, she heard Caitlyn ask in a cold, knowing voice, "Now, do you really want to do that to your sister?"
