Runner

Chapter 1

"RUNNERS SET..."
I run up to the line.
Then I hear the gun go off.
I take off.
While I'm running I think of so many things. Like what I'm going to place, what my time will be, what my catches will think, and about him.
I'm on my first lap out of four, and already in second.
I can hear my name being cheered out on my second lap.
"Go Cora!"

"Keep it up Cora!"

"Good job Cora!"

Soon enough I hear the bell ring, to tell us we are on our last lap.
I breath in and then out.
I'm on my last 200 then sprint.
Onna the girl in front of me still has a pretty large lead, I may be able to catch up with her.
Then I look over into the field and see him, Caden Akan, the guy I have liked since seventh grade. He smiles at me then yells.
"Come on Cora you can do it, you for this girl, catch up to her! You can do it!"
I start to go faster.
Then I just barely beat Onna.

"Grab your stick please!" says some lady running the meet.
I grab my stick and walk over to Coach Talbert to get my time.
"Cora, your really going to like this!"
"What was it?" I ask breathing heavily.
"5.04, that's your personal best all year!" She says giving me a high five.

I put my arms over my head for my breathing to come back.

While I walk across the field to get off the track I can hear someone running up to me I smile knowing who it is.

"Cora wait up!"

I stop then turn around.
Caden hugs me then when he lets go he says.
"Good job what was your time?"
"5.04" I say smiling.
"Shit, you beat me by three seconds!" He laughs.

"Looks like someone has to up their game!" I push him teasingly.

"Looks like I will!"

"Well, I'm going to go to the bleachers and sit down for a little before the 800. Do you want to come?"

"Sure." He says with a shrug.

"So, what other events are you running in today?" I ask trying to make a little conversation on the way to where we are going to sit.

"4x400, 800, and long jump."

"Nice, going to try to beat me in the 800 today?"

"We'll see, but yeah that's my goal!" He laughs

I laugh.
