season 4, in between criss angel is a douchebag and after school special

After the Criss Angel episode, I've been keeping such a close eye on Sam that I've been concerned for myself. I may have looked odd whenever I would stare intensely while he's on the phone. Dean knows why I've been so uptight, but doesn't know what I do.

Dean had left a while ago on a beer run while me and Sam remained in the room. We hadn't caught wind of a case yet, but I wasn't complaining. Sam was laying on the bed with a book open while I was on the other bed with the T.V remote in my hand with my legs crossed and watching whatever I found interesting. I'd been tense ever since Sam left the bar that one night.

My God, I'm turning into Dean.

Sam's phone started to ring; it startled us both. I only glanced back to see him pick i t up, but put it back down after he declined it. I looked back at the T.V before questioning him. "Wasn't Dean, was it?" I asked quietly.

Sam sighed from his place. "No."

I only nodded and stayed quiet. My confirmation. I put the remote down and played with my ring while watching whatever was on.

"Can I ask you something?" Sam asked.

I glanced back at him quickly before muting the T.V and turning to face him. "Sure."

Sam waited for me to adjust before he put his book to the side and sat up. "Are you okay?"

I furrowed my eyebrows, "Do I not seem okay?"

"No, it's just that—" he sighed and moved so that he was sitting at the edge of the bed facing me. "It's just... ever since Iowa, you've been on edge. Is there something you need to get off your chest?"

So he had noticed.

I shook my head, "No. Um, I'm good. Everything is... fine."

Sam squinted at me. "Sure? You know you can talk to me about anything."

"I'm sure."

"Okay..." I smiled a little to ease his doubts, but he only continued to look at me. "If that's the case..." Sam stood up and walked past me to the table to get his jacket. "I'm gonna go out."

I started to panic. Shit! "Uh, where are you going?" I asked quickly. I stood up from the bed and stood awkwardly, trying anything and everything to get him to stay.

"Just for a walk. Do you need anything?" He asked, fixing his collar.

"Um. M-maybe we should wait for Dean? Ya know, so..." My brain seemed to shut down as I thought of excuses. "So I'm not... alone?"

Sam raised his eyebrows at me and paused at the door. "Alone? Sofia, you're twenty-four."

"Twenty-five, actually."

"Twenty-five?" My eyes widened as I thought of something.

"Yeah! Yeah, uh, ya know, birthday thing," I giggled awkwardly.

"Today?" Sam asked. No, literally months ago, just go with it.

"Yeah..."

"Awh, Sof, now I feel like a dick. I'll stop on the way back with something for you, okay?" Sam asked opening the door.

"I— uh. Sam," I called. He looked back at me expectantly.

"Yeah?"

I bit my lip and gave up. "Fuck it," I mumbled.

Sam looked at me questioningly as I walked towards him; my heart was pounding and my legs felt like I was gonna fall.

When I reached him, I hesitated a bit before I reached up. "Sof—"
