The night before had gone by pretty swiftly. Troy had left and pretty late and Amber and I crashed only minutes after he left. The following morning was Saturday; I woke up to the delightful smell of freshly brewed coffee. Amber was no longer in her bed once I rolled over. She was standing in the doorway looking at me.

“Rise and shine.” She said smiling at me. I just smiled back and groaned pulling the covers back over my head.

“No, go away. I’m cozy.” I said in a pouty voice, laughing. I heard her footsteps nearing my bed. I knew a smile was pulled across her face. I felt her hand rub on my arm through the covers.

“Come on sleeping beauty.” She paused still rubbing my arm. “I made coffee.” She said in a teasing voice. Amber knew I had a coffee addiction, and it most certainly was not a good one sense I was pregnant. Amber slowly pulled back a corner of my covers letting in a slight ray of light. “I see you Cady.” She was smiling and I started laughing.

Amber pulled back the rest of the covers as I began sitting up. The magnifying scent of coffee leered me into the kitchen ignoring the fact that I had to pee. I poured myself a cup of coffee and added a tablespoon of sugar. “Want any?” I asked Amber. I knew she hardly ever drank coffee but it would have been rude of me not to offer after grabbing some myself.

“You know what, coffee actually sound pretty good. I think I will have a cup or two this morning.” She grabbed a coffee cup out from the cabinet and started pouring herself some coffee. “If you’d like, you can take a shower. There is a fresh towel on the bathroom counter.” I smiled at Amber, she was so kind.

“If you don’t mind, I feel pretty filthy and grungy.” Amber smiled at my reply nodding. She sat herself on the couch and turned on some old fashioned cartoons.

“If you hurry, you can watch a few reruns of Tom And Jerry.” She smiled. I was unsure if she was just teasing or if she was being serious. I wasn’t about to confess my obsession with the old cartoons to her. Amber may have been a pretty good friend to me but still. Amber turned her head to look at me. “Hope you don’t mind, I absolutely love Tom and Jerry.” I smiled brightly.

“Are you kidding? I love Tom And Jerry!” I scurried to the bathroom to shower. I undressed and crawled into the shower. The warm water felt incredible running over my body. I could feel the soap cleansing my skin. I hurried along with the shower and dried off. As I finished dressing I walked out to the other room just in time for a new show of Tom and Jerry. Amber and I sat on opposite sides of the couch under a blanket watching the cartoon.

Once the cartoon was finished Amber and I talked a bit. I noticed that I hadn’t seen either of her parents. So I asked her about them, I knew she had a father and I knew she didn’t live alone either. Amber said her mother worked six days a week and was always very busy and supportive of her.

I thought of my mother, she hadn’t worked a day in her life. And I didn’t know who my father was, all I knew was that he left my mother and I two days after I was born. Amber was somewhat lucky; her father still lived with them but only every other six months. His job took him away and currently he was across the seas in China for work.

She missed her dad and I could understand why, he sounded like a very loyal and caring father; he just wasn’t home much. Amber and her mother, Kris, had a very strong bond between them. I was quite anxious to meet her.
