As promised, Nagito tells you all about his thoughts on hope and talent, which is...a lot...for you to take in. You haven't ever talked to someone quite this interesting before. Every word that comes out of his mouth has you intrigued as well as maybe a bit concerned or confused. He is definitely quite the character. While you are sure some people would just write him off as crazy, you find yourself wanting to get to know the boy a bit better.
He starts off by telling you that he believes his status as the Ultimate Lucky Student is not a talent. He also says you remind him of himself in that sense, considering both of you to be talentless. He then goes on to explain that the world is mostly made up of talentless people who are made to be nothing more than stepping stones for those who are truly talented. Apparently, that is why he called you a nobody earlier. He believes that both of you are nobodies when it comes down to it. He doesn't have anything against you, that's just how he sees the majority of the world. It confuses you a bit and you're not quite sure you don't feel a bit hurt by his words but it genuinely seems that he doesn't mean it in a bad way. In fact, he seems to dislike himself the most out of anybody who exists.
Once he's done telling you all about his worldviews, you find yourself feeling exhausted. Your mind is whirling as you continue to try and figure out his way of thinking. To your surprise, he notices your tired state.
"Hey, are you okay?" Nagito's brow furrows slightly as his voice softens in concern. "You look pretty out of it. Ah, I'm sorry if it's my fault. I should have known better than to ramble on like this."
You shake your head quickly and tell him it isn't his fault. You then proceed to thank him for telling you more about himself and his views. However, you can't help but tell him that you don't entirely agree with them. As much as you are scared to start conflict or even have him dislike you, you feel uncomfortable at the thought of viewing most people as "stepping stones." You tell him that you believe everyone has a purpose, though this causes him to chuckle.
"Haha, of course! I never said people don't have a purpose. That's quite the opposite of what I said, actually. After all, our purpose as talentless nobodies is to serve as stepping stones for those who harbour beautiful talents." He's practically gushing as he talks. You have no idea how to feel about the things that are coming out of his mouth. You just kind of feel awkward and uncertain of your place.
You then find yourself blurting out a question. You ask him why he stopped those girls from bullying you if he thinks that way. After all, the girls who were bullying you were ultimates from Hope's Peak. You don't understand why he would protect a nobody like you if he didn't think much of anyone who wasn't an ultimate.
He chuckles. "They weren't using their talents for the sake of hope, were they? They were using them to cause despair to an innocent bystander. Even though your existence isn't something that is remarkable by any means, they were using you to spread despair rather than hope." Something in his expression darkens and the corners of his lips twitch into the beginnings of a slight frown. "Anything that is done in the name of despair is truly despicable. It's worse than being someone useless like me. Using one's talent in the name of despair is the worst thing anyone can possibly do. I can't forgive people when they do that. I simply can't let that go unnoticed." He begins to tighten his hands into fists, though he seems to be doing this subconsciously. It is obvious that he is very passionate about what he is saying to you.
"Oh." You don't know what to say other than that. You are stunned by his words. Everything he says is utterly fascinating. He's so interesting that you find yourself wanting to talk to him more.
"Is something the matter?" Nagito snaps out of his weirdly passionate phase and regards you worriedly. "Were my words too much for you? Ah, I apologize if that's the case. I know someone like you probably wouldn't understand the importance of hope and talent."
You assure him that everything's fine. He then smiles at you and rises to his feet, extending his hand out to help you onto your own.
As you take his hand, he continues to smile at you. "Hey, thank you for listening to my worthless rambles. Nobody has ever wanted to hear me talk about my ideology before. It means a lot to me that you stayed to hear me out."
You find yourself blushing. You tell him that you were happy to listen to him and that you would gladly do so again. You even admit that you want to talk to him again and that you like his company.
This causes his cheeks to pinken slightly. His eyes take on the same passionate gleam as they had when he had been going on about hope and talent. "O-oh my! I've never had anyone say they want to talk to me again. My luck must be pretty good today. I'm feeling goosebumps at the thought of the bad luck that will follow!" He begins to wrap his arms around himself slightly, then refocuses his attention on you entirely. "I will gladly talk to you again! Please, allow me to walk you to your home. I'll be waiting for you outside first thing tomorrow morning."
You allow him to walk you to your house and listen to him as he babbles excitedly about his good luck. You feel a twinge of sadness to think that he feels the same loneliness as you, perhaps even more so. When you get to your home and the two of you part ways, you realize you are already excited to see him tomorrow morning.
