THE SECOND YEARS were given something new to think about during their Easter holidays. The time had come to choose their subjects for the third year, a subject Y/n had no interest in.

"Should I just pick whatever?" Y/n asked, one morning at the Gryffindor table.

"Y/n, that can affect your future," said Cedric, who stood over her shoulder, assuring she was picking the right classes.

"You sound like your mother," said Seth, leaning in to grab a green apple from the fruit bowl.

"And my mother was right," said Cedric. "I wish we could drop Defence Against the Dark Arts. I haven't learned anything since second year."

"Or potions," Y/n mumbled, dreadfully looking at her transcript.

"Just check everything," Seth suggested.

Neville had been sent letters from all the witches and wizards in his family, all giving him different advice on what to choose.

Confused and worried, he sat reading the subject lists with his tongue poking out, asking people whether they thought Arithmancy sounded more difficult than Study of Ancient Runes.

Percy was eager to share his guidance with Y/n.

"Depends where you want to go, Y/n," he said. "It's never too early to think about the future, so I'd recommend Divination. People say Muggle Studies is a soft option, but I personally think wizards should have a thorough understanding of the non- magical community, particularly if they're thinking of working in close contact with them – look at my father, he has to deal with Muggle business all the time. My brother Charlie was always more of an outdoor type, so he went for Care of Magical Creatures. Play to your strengths, Y/n."

"Well, I don't know what I want to be," said Y/n, running her hands through her (h/c)-haired.

"There's still time," said Cedric.

Y/n thought about the many interest and hobbies she had, but the only thing she could come up with was Quidditch, even that didn't seem as fun.

Gryffindor's next Quidditch match would be against Hufflepuff. Cedric had gone on and on about how he was sure Hufflepuff would win, however, Oliver was insisting on team practices every night after dinner, so that Y/n barely had time for anything but Quidditch and homework.
