~Sam's POV~
I walked into Alex's room and she was sleeping peacefully. A rare sight. She looked so innocent and perfect. I hadn't seen my child look this at peace since she was a baby. I didn't want to wake her, but we had to get going.
"Dean?" I asked as I left her room for a moment.
"Yeah?"
"She looks so peaceful, I don't want to wake her, but I know we have to get going. Can you get her stuff to the car? I was just gonna carry her to the backseat so she can stay asleep. I know it sounds stupid but I haven't seen her look this at peace since a couple days after she was born."
"It's not stupid and yeah, I'll get her stuff."
"Thanks Dean." I walked back into her room and removed the covers other than the green blanket she had wrapped around her. I picked her up, and slowly and carefully carried her to the car. I somehow managed to open the door to the backseat. I carefully laid her down on the seat. She didn't even move. She just stayed so peaceful. I couldn't help but just stand there. I was lost in thoughts of her as a child.
~flashback~
It was the day we took Alex home from the hospital when she was born. My wife had been holding her as much as she could for the past few days. I had been there as much as I could, but Dean and I had hunting to do and she respected that despite the selfishness. I walked in the hospital room this last day, and looked into my wife's gorgeous eyes. She had never been more happy. They glistened in the fluorescent lighting and I couldn't help but smile. She was holding our baby girl. I couldn't believe I was a father. She finally asked me if I wanted to hold her. I hadn't had the chance to hold her yet because I was there so intermittently and it always seemed like she was asleep when I was there. I happily said yes. She handed me Alex. She was such a tiny little fragile thing. A little thing that I helped bring into the world. A little pure, innocent thing that had been untouched by the world, untouched by monsters, untouched by the curse that comes with being a Winchester. I looked right into my baby girl's eyes, and she looked back into mine. She started to smile, and I couldn't help but cry a tear of joy. This was my daughter. The little girl I would raise to be something great, someone great, someone who would remain this bright eyed happy kid. I had never felt more joy in my life.
~normal time~
Dean walked up to me, and placed a hand on my shoulder. "You ready man?" He asked, pulling me out of my memories.
"Yeah." I said before looking at Alex one more time and realizing that I did what I was supposed to do for as long as I could. She was a happy kid most of the time. She grew up to be a strong hunter and person who has a heart more caring than anyone I know. I walked around to the passenger seat and got in.
"You ok?" Dean asked.
"Yeah, I was just remembering the day we took her home and how innocent she was then, and how innocent she looks when she's sleeping now."
Dean chuckled and smiled.
"What?"
"I remember that day too. It was incredible." He said with a smile on his face. I smiled back and we drove off.
~Alex's POV~
I woke up at some point and was lying down in the backseat. I sat up."Guys? Why do I not remember being woken up this morning?" I asked. I hadn't realized we were stopped and Dean was the only one in the car.
"Your dad carried you to the car because you were sleeping peacefully and he didn't want to wake you......" He paused. "He really loves you you know."
"Oh. That explains it. And, I know that. Why do you feel the need to tell me that?"
"Because I know you know he loves you, but he loves you more than he shows you. He just had a flashback while putting you in the car about the day we took you home from the hospital. I remember that day too. It was the happiest I have ever seen him in my whole life. He cried with joy just holding you. He's told me about how he felt before and he says that you looked into his eyes and he looked in yours, and all you did was smile. He loves you to death. You are his whole world, Alex. You mean more to him than me or even your mom. I wanted to tell you that because I know things get tough and have been, especially lately, but you should know you are always loved by us."
"Thanks Dean. You shouldn't say he loves me more than you. Just because he loves me doesn't mean he loves you any less." Dean just nodded.
"So where is he anyways?"
"He's inside getting some food." He said. We were stopped at some burger joint. "I told him I'd keep an eye on you."
"Ok. Looks like he's coming back." He opened the passenger door.
"Hey Alex. I see you're up."
"Yep. Thanks for letting me sleep."
"Of course. I just figured you have no reason to get up so early just to ride in the car, so I carried you." I nodded. I knew what Dean said was true and figured my dad felt embarrassed to share his story.
