stef pov
i slipped on the same outfit i wore to joão's first game against ghana and kept my hair natural. the game against uruguay was a bit early today, so the team was going out to dinner after. joão was a bit less nervous today, but he still obviously was a bit anxious.
"you ready?" joão asked with a nervous grin. i nodded, and grabbed my bag and we headed out of the hotel room and down to the lobby to wait for the bus. i saw georgina and i ran up to her, giving her a hug.
"hi babe, i haven't seen you since the club." she said with a sweet voice.
"i don't even remember anything from that night."
"me neither, don't worry." she continued with a smirk, "anything new with joão?"
"nothing new." i winked.
"i have to tell you something." she said, pulling my arm away from the guys. i shot her a confused look and she asked quietly, "what is happening between you and rafael?" i immediately rolled my eyes and said,
"me and him have to talk because i think i've given him about 100 hints and i even told him straight up i wasn't interested and he doesn't get it." her face contorted in confusion and she asked,
"you guys didn't hook up..?"
"no..?"
"so why is he telling everyone you guys did?" what. i immediately became overflowed with anger. georgina tried to calm me down and i questioned,
"when did he say this?"
"he said it happened after the club."
"that's actually the opposite of what happened." i angrily spoke. i couldn't contain myself and i walked over to joão and tapped his shoulder. he turned around and before he could speak, i dragged him over to a corner in the room where there was no people.
"what's wrong stef?" he asked with a worried look. he put his hands on my waist.
"tell me why rafael told the whole team that me and him hooked up after the club." his hands gripped my waist tighter.
"what?"
"georgina just told me." his jaw clenched and he looked back at the team and saw rafael laughing with them. "don't say anything before the game, i don't want any drama between you guys to distract you." he looked back at me and i rested my hands on his chest.
"i don't understand how i didn't hear about it." he mumbled. i shrugged and rubbed his arms to calm him down a bit more. "i'll have a talk with him later." i sighed, knowing it probably wouldn't end well. i tried to push the thought out of my head and pulled his hand back to the team since the bus arrived. he caught up to me and kept a strong grip around my waist as we walked out. georgina shot me a look and winked, i laughed slightly. and we continued walking. joão never loosened his grip as we got on the bus and made our way to the back. rafael was already in his seat, and he looked up to see me. i gave him a nasty look. this time, bruno was sitting next to him. bruno punched his shoulder lightly and rafael laughed. i wanted to beat his ass, but i didn't, (not yet at least).
