Selfish

Mikey knew he was selfish. It wasn't hard to notice. All he wanted was for his brothers to respect him. He knew he was more on the goofy side, but someone had to be. Leo was the leader. Raph was the brawn and Donnie was the brains. That didn't give him much choice but to be anything but comedic relief. So the youngest turtle was the comedic relief, but that comedic relief had managed to put his brothers and sensei into a heap of trouble.

I'm starting to think I should've just stuck to my role. Michelangelo worried his bottom lip as he stared at his brothers and father who were now nothing more than ordinary animals. The young turtle didn't know what to do. It was his fault that they had gotten unmutated. He shouldn't have been tricked by the foot's pathetic flattery and wicked charm. He should've known better. His brothers did.

His throat tightened as he caught the familiar colors of his brother's bandanas lying carelessly on the floor. "I'll fix this... I promise.." Mikey's voice cracked as he slumped down.

He didn't know how he was, but he was going to try. Even if it meant that the foot clan turned on him. The mutant exhaled softly. Mikey wondered how mad his family would be once they were back to normal. Would they disown him or would they forgive him? Would sensei ground him? Would they let him rejoin the team? Part of him hoped that he would get off easy and that everything would return back to normal, but that's a dead man's wish. Mikey had fucked up badly. He left the team, left his family for people who had been his enemies for years. He left the people he cared about most just because he wanted to be respected. Michelangelo didn't deserve respect, not after what he did.

But they weren't giving you the attention you wanted. His mind screeched. Mikey shook his head. It wasn't a good excuse to blame it on the lack of attention.

He wondered how mad his brothers were when they were forced to break the truce. He wondered how disappointed they were in him. The orange-cladded turtle inhaled sharply as he remembered the looks of his brothers as he fled the lair. The looks of hurt, anger, and betrayal. The poker face Leo almost always had, cracking away. When he had run away he had hoped that his family wouldn't try to convince him to come home, but they had. They were even dedicated enough to follow him to Japan. They hadn't given up on him when he had clearly given up on them.

His stomach churned as shame coursed through him. Michelangelo should've thought of the consequences. Should've planned his actions better. He shouldn't of let his anger get the best of him, but he had and now he had things to fix. Mikey knew he was selfish, but he wanted to fix that. For his brothers. His family.
