TWO
SET HER OFF AND SHE GOES BOOM!CROWDED SPACES had always been a problem for Iris, not that she was claustrophobic or anything. It was the fact that even with her bracelet on, it was hard to control her legilimency when the open minds of hundreds of teenagers were practically screaming at her to read their thoughts. But somehow, pushing past those very teenagers on the narrow hallway of the Hogwarts express was one of her favourite parts of her journey to the castle. She loved to see the excitement on the faces of those returning, and looking at the 1st year's nervous expressions that reminded her of her 11 year old self. To say the least she was good at dealing with chaos.
Lily however, was not.
With a tight grip on her friend's jumper, lily struggled to get past everyone while also forcefully dragging her trunk. She gave instructions for Iris to keep looking for an empty compartment but typically for them, it wasn't going very well. The distraction of James's self humiliation on the platform caused many people to push in front of them, taking up most of the empty compartments.
Just as Iris was about to suggest that they might have to sit with the boys, which she knew Lily wouldn't like. Their lord and saviour herself, Marlene Mckinnon decided to cause a scene by shouting unnecessarily loudly.
"Tulip, buttercup, the most amazing people that have ever wandered into your life are right in here, don't go looking for guys to snog!"
The people around them looked at eachother confusedly, not recalling the names 'tulip' or 'buttercup' in Hogwarts, ever. Lily rolled her eyes but a small smile worked its way up on her face, relieved to hear her friend's voice. Iris laughed at Marlene's usual mayhem and pushed Lily along so they could avoid any more time standing.
Once they made it near enough Marlene stepped aside with her arm outstretched as if to say 'ladies first' which made Iris believe that it was only appropriate to curtsy, pretending to be flattered by Marlene's gentlemanly ways.
Once they both managed to haul up their luggage, they sat down with a huff. Iris laid flat with her head on Alice's lap and her feet spread out over Dorcas's. Lily went to sit down between Mary and Marlene but made the mistake of sitting on top of one of Mary's thighs. She quickly apologised profusely as Mary dismissed it and quickly started a conversation. But not before Iris noticed her red cheeks, deciding to keep quiet, she only smirked to herself.
"What took you guys so long?" Mary asked, sitting stiffly with her back up straight looking as if she was scared to touch the girl next to her. Remembering the sight on the platform, iris let out an amused chuckle.
"Didn't you guys see? James was out there, practically drooling at nothing. I swear he was daydreaming about a Veela, I wouldn't doubt it."
"Oh we saw alright, but i would have to disagree and say that he was most definitely drooling at something" Dorcas said, almost smugly
"Or most specifically someone, who might be the equivalent of a Veela in his mind" Alice piped up.
While Mary and Marlene laughed, Lily looked panicked, Iris was simply confused as fuck. How on earth did they know exactly what was going on in the mind of James Potter, and she, the literal mind reader of the group, did not. If it wasn't for the stupid bracelet on her wrist, she could look into the mind of a chosen one and find out herself. The only problem was that the bracelet was stuck, and could only come off with a certain spell that she didn't know of until she turned the legal age of 17.
