Chapter 8

The daydream came to an abrupt end when someone placed their hand on my shoulder. I jumped back in shock and gasped for air. I calmed down when I saw that it was just Seamus. "You okay?" he asked, looking genuinely concerned.

"Uumm Yeah, thanks" I gathered my wits together again and Marie and Seamus took us outside. It felt good to breathe in the sweet fresh air again because, although we were only on the train for about 7 hours, it felt like I'd been cooped up inside the train forever.

"Right, over this way" Marie said, indicating to a limousine over to the left. Freddie and I walked slowly over to the limo, hand in hand, and were closely followed by Marie and Seamus. But it felt like someone waas missing. I couldn't figure out who it was until Freddie said it for me, "where's Kara and Jordan?", he said as we were getting into the car.

"Oh, they just need to pick a few things up first, but don't worry, they'll be right behind us". That seemed reasonable so neither one of us questioned this. The rest of the car journey was uneventful, unless you count Marie's constant babble that I don't think anyone was actually listening to.

We got out of the car and were escorted to, what I'm calling death row, eventhough it is really only a massive used-to-be hotel that is now used by the tributes and the mentors, escorts and stylists in the run up to the games.

I still wasn't really hungry so I went up to bed as soon as we stepped inside. I lay on my bed and I fell almost immedietly into a deep dreamless sleep that was only disturbed by the beeping of my bedside alarm clock. I have no memory of setting it, so someone must have come in last night to do it whilst I was sleeping. It was 10 o'clock already!! I thought I was late so I jumped out of bed and, seeing that I hadn't even got changed into the pyjamas that had been laid out on my bed, I decided to just stay in yesterdays clothes, which were a bit creased but I didn't think that would really matter too much.

I walked down to the dining room for breakfast, my appetite had evidently come back in my sleep, and now I was starving. the walls were lined with table upon table of different foods. I helped myself to 2 pain au chocolats and a large cup of coffee with a couple of biscuits, not a very healthy breakfast I know but oh well. I sat at the table alone, as no one else had come yet, so much for being late!, until Freddie came in with a big mug of hot chocolate in his hands.

"Mornin'" he said, holding up the mug single-handedly, unusually cheery for this situation. We sat there for a while, eating our breakfast when Seamus came in with Kara and Jordan. They sat with us for a while, until we had both finished eating, and then they took us out of the room. " We have to get you ready for tonight" Kara was saying, as we were gliding, more than walking down the corridors. after at least 3 hours of getting me crystal clean and prepping me for the opening ceremony, kara finally took me out of the spa, and into an enormous dressing room. I looked at the clock, that was covered in tiny diamontes, and sparkled in the sunlight, and saw that it was 2 o'clock.

I tried on a few dresses until we found the perfect one for me to wear to the ceremony tonight. We met up with Freddie and Jordan, and we all sat down to watch tapes of the last 2 games and ceremonies. Everything was silent as we admired the amaing work of the stylists when Jordan looked down at ther  watch and gasped "Oh no! It's 4 already!!". The ceremony started at 8 and, judging by her reaction, it would normally take much longer to get properly prepared.
