The snow crunched under his steps as he staggered through the woods. Leaning against a tree, he closed his eyes to take a deep breath. There was someone close. A fire was burning. He was curious if he could make it, though. And depending on who found him- he wasn't sure what the outcome would be.

Groaning, the man bent to pick up a handful of snow. Setting it against his temple, he winced. Blood ran down his face. His scruff was smeared with crimson as he tried to wipe it away. The blood was everywhere. At this point, he wasn't sure what was his blood and what wasn't.

Pushing away from the tree, he continued his slow journey to what he hoped was safety. Blood dotted the alabaster ground as he continued to stumble to the scent of burning wood. He had to keep going. He wasn't sure his assailant was dead. He didn't have the strength to continue the fight if he needed. So retreating was the best idea at the moment.

The cabin was in sight. A few trees stood between him and the clearing before the home. The large windows that lined the cabin offered him a glimpse inside. His vision blurred as he took another step. A person moved within.

Safety.

It was within reach.

Closer.

He had to get closer.

Had he moved?

Falling.

Cold.

Black.

As the woman walked to the kitchen, she caught sight of something on the edge of the forest. Squinting into the bitter cold, she saw someone falling to the ground. Chewing her lip, she thought over what to do. She was alone. No one would be at the cabin for another week.

Giving into temptation, she grabbed her coat. Next came her boots, and then she was out the door. Trudging through the snow, she made her way around the side of the cabin. She tried to survey the human lump that lay before her. Their breaths were heavy. Slow. The bulk indicated it was likely a man.

Gulping, she stepped closer. He was on his side, his face buried in the snow. Pushing on his body, she was able to turn him slightly. She inhaled sharply. He was covered in blood. His dark hair was matted with dirt and blood. As she scanned his body, she noted the tears in his black clothes. Lifting her head, she spotted the blood trail leading deep into the woods.

The issue was getting him inside the cabin. While the distance wasn't far, the male likely had seventy to eighty pounds on her. He was tall yet lean. Even with the grime, she guessed his hair was black. Settling on a plan, the woman took off to the rear of the cabin.

In the shack that was nestled behind the shed, she was able to pull the sled out. Unfortunately, the snow was early this year, meaning the dogs still needed to be brought to the home. But, with slow and steady steps, she was able to reach the man in the snow.

Kneeling again, she gently tapped his cheek, "I'm going to try and move you."

Nothing.

"This may hurt," she added, hoping he could hear her.

Pushing him onto his back, she gripped the collar of his thin jacket. She tugged and tugged until his back was at the sled's base. Then, taking a break, the woman observed the man's condition. He was- rugged. Wild almost. She wasn't sure what made her think that.

Shaking her thoughts away, she continued to get him onto the sled. Finally, breaking a sweat, she got him on the sled. It took a lot of effort to pull the sled to the front of the house. Taking a moment to catch her breath, she pushed the front door open.
