"I'm so sick of this shit," Diana whispers as she rests her forehead against the cool railing of the astronomy tower. The beginning of September brings a flurry of miserably cold rain and Diana is shivering miserably from the mere five minutes she had spent outside on the tower of the old school.
It was well past curfew for the students that attended Hogwarts and even though getting caught wandering around the school at this time meant a night spent with Filch cleaning, Diana was leaning over the railing as she watched the stars twinkle at her.
Her head was pouncing from the headache that had started to form half an hour ago. It was barely the first week of school and she had already received three letters from her parents. All three letters told her to keep herself at the top of her classes and that if they got news that her scores dropped even the slightest bit, she would have a first-class ticket to hell.
It's not like Diana was surprised. Her parents did this every year for the past 7 years. They made sure she was kept in line because they believed that the moment that the Corbin reputation was tainted, the world would collapse or something.
Diana sighed as she threw the cigarette that she had been smoking over the railing. The light of the bud slowly becoming smaller and smaller until eventually, like all things if you push them hard enough, it gave out.
She had many things on her mind that miserable night but the main thing was her family and their reputation and all the pressure that was put on her.
The Corbins were a wealthy family of French descent. They were rich and powerful. More than the Malfoy's and that was saying something. Everybody knew who the Corbin's were and that caused everybody to know who Diana was.
People either loved her or hated her and there was no in-between. They either thought she was a smart and respectable girl, whose confidence was something admirable or they thought she was an arrogant bitch with an ego higher than the hippies that hung around the halls.
It didn't matter if you looked up to her or wanted her dead because either way, it seemed that everybody would expect something great out of Diana Corbin.
The girl was already 17, turning 18 in the month to come, which meant that society already saw her as grown. Knowing that, Diana couldn't even begin to think of what her parents were planning for her to do once school was done.
Probably marry a rich dude who doesn't give a single fuck about me and live in the manor back in France. She thought.
That was the most logical answer of course for any pureblood girl her age but something in the back of her head told her that they had something different planned for her.
All she could hope for is that it wouldn't involve anything horrible and that her parents would at least show her enough mercy to not force her into following the same dark path they took.
She glanced down at the small, delicate rose tattoo on her wrist. The Corbin Rose. The rose that represented the expectations that had been put on her since she was just a kid.
Pushing herself off the railing, Diana made her way down the stairs of the old tower. It was about to be midnight so the prefects should be done with their nightly patrols. She was still shivering from the unforgiving weather that she had just been in.
As she made her way down to the dark dungeons she made sure to keep herself in the shadows. The prefects might be done with their patrols but it almost seemed like Filch never stopped roaming the halls in hopes of catching an unlucky student.
"Kneazle," Diana whispered once she was standing in front of the Slytherin common room doors. The heavy doors swung open without a sound. She stepped into the common room and was instantly met with warmth. It wasn't exactly cozy or warm in the common room because of the fact that it was located in the dungeons and right next to the Black Lake, but it was certainly much warmer than the cruel temperatures she had just been in.
A couple of people were still up. Some studying, others talking with their friends, and others playing chess and other games. A couple of them looked her way as she entered the common room, curious to see who was brave enough to stay outside 4 hours after curfew.
She paid them no attention and made her way to the left staircase, the one that lead to the girl's dormitories. Diana's dormitory was all the way to the left. She didn't share the room with anyone like the other girls. Some say it was because the girls that were supposed to be her roommates were too scared and some say it was because her parents paid for her to have the room.
Truthfully Diana didn't know exactly why she didn't share the room with anyone, but she guessed it was just because of the uneven number of girls in the Slytherin house. It's not like she was the first person ever to not have any roommates and plus, if you could pay to have a room all to yourself, there would be a bunch of rich kids who wouldn't have roommates either.
The brunette took out her pitch-black wand, and with a flick of her wrist, the door unlocked. She pushed the door open and made her way to the bed.
On top of her silk bedsheet was a letter. Sealed with a rose wax seal, she knew it was from her parents.
Taking out the silver pocket knife in her robe's pocket, she opened the letter up and read the letter.Diana Corbin,
Hello Diana. You're an intelligent girl, so I'm sure that you won't be too surprised by what this letter has to say.
You're only job in this family is to keep the Corbin legacy going. Your father and I have decided that it is time for you to finally make us proud and follow in our footsteps. I can't get too specific but I'm sure you know what I mean.
Tomorrow, Saturday 7th, you are expected to come home no later than noon so you can finally join us in keeping our ancestors proud. I'm expecting your full cooperation.
Your Mother,
Aurora CorbinWho knew such a vague letter could cause so much damage in such little time?
