Chapter 7: Broken trust

That evening

At the hospital

They had gotten Jasmine to the hospital. Talia, Jake, Asher, Layla and Cameron waited anxiously in the waiting area.

Cameron: How did this even happen?!
Asher: The psycho must've done this.

Asher looked to Layla who was trying to hold back tears.

Asher: *muttering* This is all your fault Layla.
Layla: Excuse me? How is this my fault?! I didn't ask for my best friend to get killed!
Asher: If you didn't come back then your psycho crusher wouldn't have caused all this.
Layla: I didn't know any of this would happen!
Asher: This is because you went on that date with Jason.
Layla: It wasn't a date!

Asher showed her the pictures Theo took. She then showed him the pictures Jasmine had sent him.

Layla: If anyone was on a date, it was you. I can't believe I trusted you!
Asher: You lied about seeing your dad to go out with him!
Layla: I didn't lie! It was postponed so Jason took me ice-skating. You've always been so quick to assume things.
Asher: You've always been so oblivious and naive!
Layla: What else do you think of me?
Asher: You want to know what I think of you? You're naive, oblivious, stupid and way too kind.
Layla: Oh, is that why you kissed Ivy? Because she's everything I'm not?
Asher: I didn't kiss Ivy!
Jake: Woah, there's no need to blame people.
Talia: I know you're both upset by this-

Talia was interrupted by the doctor approaching them.

Doctor: We've been able to get blood into her body and we've patched up the wound. Though due to the large amount of blood loss, someone will have to donate blood to her.
Layla: I'll do it.
Doctor: Very well then. We'll have to start soon so I'll need you to fill out some papers. She is unconscious but you may see her.

Layla followed the doctor while Talia, Jake and Asher went to see Jasmine.

Doctor: Are you sure you want to do this?
Layla: I'm sure. She's my best friend, I have to help her.
Doctor: *smiles* I'll get everything ready for you. Feel free to go see your friend. I'll get you when it's time.

Layla nodded and went to Jasmine's room. She found Asher sitting beside Jasmine. Layla's focus shifted from Asher to Layla. Seeing her made Layla tear up.

Asher: Layla, we need to talk.

Layla nodded nervously and they stepped outside the room.

Asher: Layla, I thought I could trust you. I told you Jason was a suspect and you ignored him.
Layla: Jason wouldn't kill someone, he's a cop for crying out loud.
Asher: He's the only other person who's in love with you. Why won't you listen to me?
Layla: Because this could be your jealousy talking.
Asher: Maybe it is. It's clear you feel something for Jason. He's never wrong in your eyes.
Layla: He's my friend, I've known him for a while. And if it's anyone who feels something for someone else, it's you. You still haven't explained what you and Ivy did earlier today.
Asher: Ivy is like a sister to me, I wouldn't do anything to her!
Layla: She's also everything I'm not. She's not oblivious or naive, she's the right amount of kind, she's smart and she's beautiful. I get that she's better than me but if you really thought so then why did you waste my time?!
Asher: Why are you getting like this now? It's like you don't trust-
Layla: Yes, I don't trust you. Do you wanna know why? Because you can be a player. You've played with hearts before so why wouldn't you play with mine?
Asher: You should know I've changed. You, on the other hand, have not changed one bit. You're still the same abused teenage girl you were 5 years ago. Can't you learn to let go of the past?
Layla: Look who's talking. *sigh* I'm not going to argue about this. We're done!
Asher: Fine by me!
