That's her

Pooh and I have this unofficial pact that if we're single and need a date somewhere, we'd be each other's dates. Sometimes he finds someone else and sometimes I will. The great thing about us is it doesn't matter either way. We don't get bent out of shape or hurt. We are there for each other when we need it. I don't mind going to weddings, and they're especially fun with him. We have the best time. An open bar is my second best friend after Pooh.

I have to find a dress for this wedding and he has to buy a present still, so we are at the mall to do a bit of shopping.

Pooh shakes his head at me as we walk through the mall. "You have a million dresses. I don't get why you have to buy a new one just for this. It's not even your friend's wedding."

"I'm not going to a wedding in a dress I already own and that people have seen already."

He wipes his hand over his face. "Women. Are. So. Weird. No one there has seen any of your dresses!"

"There will be pictures, though, my dear Nicholas."

"Ew. Don't talk like that. It's creepy."

"Let me have this, please. I love shopping for new clothes. You know I love shopping for new clothes."

"Oh I know. Can I get my present first? Then you can go into every store in the mall and try everything on."

"And you'll tell me how good everything looks on me?"

"Of course. I never lie."

"Awww. You sweet talker."

"I only speak the truth." He scrolls around on his phone. "Thank god they have a registry or else I'd have no idea what to buy. Let's go."

I'm surprised Pooh is getting something off of the registry instead of something from the heart. He's really good at giving thoughtful gifts and this is someone he's pretty close with. I understand the ease of using the registry, though, this way he can't go wrong. He does take the time to pick something he knows they will actually use. It's too bad he isn't the best man because the way he talks about this couple with such fondness, it would make a great best man speech. I've only met them a few times, and both times were brief, but they were cool from what I can remember.

After he buys his gift we pop in and out of a few stores. So far I haven't seen anything I liked enough to try on, which is pretty rare for me.

"Can you believe I'm just gonna wear a shirt and tie I already own?" One of Pooh's favorite things in this world is to tease me. That's ok. I know he loves me.

"It's not my problem that you wanna be boring."

"You know I am far from boring."

"You're right. You are the most fun."

He smiles and hugs me. "We have the most fun together. Veronica harmonica."

I snarl. "I hate when you call me that."

"But it's cute, and you used to play the harmonica."

"When I was five. Everyone did." I push him. "Come on, I gotta find a dress."

"I know where we can look. Your closet."

"There's a store over this way that I usually find clothes I like." We walk a little further and I stop in my tracks when I see Jamie walking with her. Suddenly I feel 500 degrees hotter than usual and my heart is beating out of my chest. "Shit." Usually I'm happy to see him, but this time I don't know how I feel. They are stopped in front of a store and talking. Of course she looks fucking perfect.

Pooh doesn't realize I've stopped and keeps walking until he looks for me next to him and I'm not there. He rushes back to me. "You stopped."

"That's him. He's here."
