I turn around and sigh. Bracing myself for whatever I'm about to walk into, god I hope I'm not in trouble or something.
"Mum what's going on?" I say to her plainly.
"Savannah..." My mum says shakily. I rush over and hug her straight away, I don't know what's happened.
"Mum, come on, come sit down it's okay." I say, slowly ushering her to the sofa in the living room. She sits down, not letting me go while we both go down onto the sofa.
"Okay." She takes a deep breath, calming herself down a bit before she continues, "Well, for one thing I saw Cole with another girl, but that's not whats bothering me I just wanted you to know to ease myself into it." She chuckles lightly, trying to lighten the mood slightly.
"Come on, mum. You're killing me here." I say bluntly, realising that I sounded quite insensitive but maybe I get a free pass if I don't mention that the girl is actually his sister.
"Well, oh sweetheart you won't understand. But one of my college friends has passed away." She says, wiping a tear from her cheek. "I just couldn't have Cole here when I feel like I'm going to break down sobbing every minute." She explains.
"That's okay mum, he'd understand." I smile at her, hoping to give her some comfort. "Did Cindee know this friend?" I ask her.
"Yeah, we all bunked together." She says weakly, thinking about fond memories that she'd no longer be able to retell without the sadness of her friends passing.
"Maybe, we could invite Cindee here? Or you go there? You might actually be able to help each other right now." I suggest, "It's not that I want to see Cole, I just genuinely think it might be a good idea, mum. I love you, but I didn't know her so I don't think I'll be much help." I tell her, hoping she understands that I'm here for her but I can't really understand it enough to help her.
"Thank you, sweetheart. That sounds great, can you sort it out?" She says, jumping up from the sofa. "You've given me something to do, I can distract myself a bit by cooking some food for Cindee and Cole." She smiles at me, but behind her eyes I can see the pain residing and I can feel her mulling over the events of tonight in her head.
"Yeah, of course I can mum. But just to let you know, it won't just be Cindee and Cole." I tell her, hesitantly.
"Continue?" She asks.
"That girl you saw Cole with, actually turns out to be his sister, well half-sister. But I'm not supposed to tell you but I guess since she'll have to come you sorta, have to know too." I explain to her.
"That's fine, the more the merrier right?" She says hesitantly, almost just realising in that moment that she thought she'd have to act completely okay around them, like nothing was wrong, like her friend didn't just die.
I text Cole, and explain to him what's going on. He says he'll go ask his mum and get back to me, and after a short while he does. His mum thinks it's a great idea, and they'll be over in about half an hour if it was still okay. Of course it was still alright.
"Mum, they'll be here in about half an hour, Cole just let me know." I smile at her, whilst she's in the kitchen making a mess trying to make some decent food but everything seems to be going wrong.
After a while, the doorbell rings and Cindee, Cole and Shay were all at the door. My mum answers it, and I go to the door with her.
"Hi Cindee..." My mum says nervously, clearing her throat as she does.
"Hey, Lisa..." Cindee responds awkwardly.
"Okayyy, this is weird, let's get inside maybe it's less weird inside?" He says eagerly nodding at me, hoping that the awkwardness dies down a bit with him pointing out the obvious of it feeling weird, to begin with.
