"Shit." It had only been two days of hiding out, but food was running low already. I guess I was a nervous eater, but this time it's really going to screw me over. It's early in the morning, and people have only started to move around down at the tents. I pull out my spyglass and look down over the camp. I immediately spot Randal, and I'm suddenly reminded of the burning in my arms.
It wasn't as bad as it was before, I checked a while ago and the rash is less angry. At least one thing is going well for me.
I readjusted my spyglass, now looking at a scruffy looking General Lee. He had developed eye bags over the course of two days, but he still looked perfect.
A beam of light hits his eye and I immediately go to hide, covering my mouth. As if he could hear me from here. That was the sun reflecting off the spyglass and into his eye. God, I'm such an idiot.
Christopher immediately knew what had blinded him, and he looked up at the castle. He narrowed his eyes.
"Are you alright?" A soldier ask's General Lee, concerned by the sudden change. He grabs the man by the shoulders, a crazed look in his eyes.
"Y/n's still in the castle."
Yep, I really fucked myself there. Now I have to be even more careful so I don't get caught. I need to get more food anyway, so the timing for this really adds up nicely. I crack open the hatch door, making sure I have my lighter on me. It'll make it easier to see down in the passageway.
I carefully climb down the ladder, watching my step so I don't slip. Slipping would result in me cracking my head open and bleeding out in the dark, and that doesn't sound very fun.
I successfully made it down the ladder without any problems, now I just have to hope no one hears me as I decend towards the kitchen. Hopefully there is still some food down there.
I made it to the kitchen, the servants kitchen. It was the only room in the castle with a faux wall that could be removed and put back in place.
I put my ear to the wall, I need to know if anyone's in the room. I don't want to risk getting caught after what happened with the spyglass earlier. I wait about five minutes before I make any move to remove the small wooden panel from the wall.
Light floods my eyes, and I recognize the familiar layout of the kitchen. I quietly place the panel onto the stone floor, crawling out before I rise to my feet.
I look around, I can see no edible food in sight. The fresh food seems to have disappeared as well as most of the spices from their rack.
I quietly make my way around the kitchen, opening cabinets and drawers, looking for any crumb of food.
I spot an almost stale loaf of sour dough bread, it would be perfect to fill my stomach with. I listen, making sure no one is around me before I make any move to grab the bread.
I decide that it's safe enough and I tear into the loaf. Sour dough is my favourite king of bread, so this is a nice little treat for me.
I finish about half of the loaf before I decide to save the rest for later. I want to wrap it up and take it with me.
I go to grab the paper, and I freeze, ter
Someone is watching me from the doorway, they had only just arrived, otherwise they would have been the first thing I noticed.
I before I can even run or determine who had snuck up on me, I was lunged at. My arms were pinned to my sides and I was pressed into someone's chest.
I start to kick and jerk around when I realize that it's General Lee who had caught me. He didn't pay any mind to me kicking his shins with full force. He only shoved his face into the crook of my neck, whispering to himself.
