Viktor Koltov was a mostly mundane guy, well, that's what he thought of himself. Ever since moving to MidMerica, he had been the talk of the school, which was quite the claim as over 7 thousand teenagers attended.
With his naturally crimson colored hair and pale appearance, he was constantly being compared to a mortal age vampire. None of that would have actually bothered him if his only friends didn't constantly tease him about it the moment he got upset about something.
His "friends" being Jamie and Violet, two absolutely flawless beings. Allegedly. Self proclaimed visionaries, apparently. Really, the only two who, again, were self-proclaimed good enough to be friends with him. Viktor was a different kind of visionary, though. He felt like he was the only person in the entire universe who was against the entire system. He felt like maybe the mortals of the old world had it right. That there was no real purpose to life if someone could decide to live forever and become young. It made nothing special at all. It wasn't like anyone actually indulged his thoughts. More like discredited his thoughts because of his pretty, pretty face. How distasteful.
"I'm just saying, Vik," Jaimie began, putting his arm around Violet's shoulder. Viktor rolled his eyes. "No seriously, take me seriously. You spew all this crap about how nothing has purpose. That ever since the Thunderhead took over everything has been nothing but mundane. But what you aren't realizing, is that it's the complete opposite! Oh! What the mortal age people would've given to live a day in our life! You're ungrateful and you know it! I'd say-"
"You don't understand Jaimie, and that's fine, okay? All I'm saying is that when there was death, there was substance.""How could you say that? There was horrible stuff happening. Imagine if you had to worry about just disappearing one day? And imagine if unsavories weren't actually just annoying goons? Like, if they were the Scythes and not the actual Scythes."
Viktor crossed his arms across his chest, and eyed the glass of iced tea on the table in front of him. The three were seated in the library of their highschool, and were supposed to be pouring over textbooks in preparation for exams, but every time they got together, they always ended up talking about this stuff. More like Viktor and Jaimie. All Violet did was look pretty and actually do her work.
That is to say, Viktor wasn't completely flawless. He was aware of his state of mind. Constantly complaining and criticizing wasn't a very alluring combination, admittedly. Sometimes he did think his view on life was too convoluted- a result of always getting what he wanted, and always being able to do anything. But he knew the practicality of it, people made problems for themselves to suffer from when nothing is actually pressing. Even so, he felt it was something important.
"Whatever, man. I'm done studying for now. See you tomorrow?" Viktor grabbed his coat off the back of the chair and waved his goodbye, happening to catch a flash of ivory silk from behind a bookcase.
