A/N: Hello everyone, this is my entry for the 'It's Okay to Like Girls' fan contest! The story is based on the image attached. I hope you enjoy the story! If you haven't read the comic for whatever reason, definitely check it out!

...

Winter was as sharp as it was cruel, as beautiful as it was icy. Sophie breathed out, adjusting her puffy jacket. She bounced on her toes, eyeing the snow-covered tree beside her. Despite the icy wind, she was so hyped. She couldn't wait to hang out with Olivia. She blushed at the thought of her. Just the two of them, running through the snow, holding hands...

Wait, what?

Sophie smacked her cheeks. Not these thoughts again. No, no. This was nothing romantic. She just wanted to be close with her friend, because the weather was so cold! That was it. Nothing else.

She gazed out into the distance. She could see Olivia heading towards her, waving. Sophie felt her heart rate increasing. Oh great, she was getting flustered already.

She shook herself out of it, waving back to her friend.

"Hey, Olivia!" she called. "Over here!"

Olivia ran over to Sophie, grinning wide. Olivia was wearing a white winter jacket, a purple scarf around her neck. A maroon beanie was on her head.

"You look great!" Sophie told Olivia.

"Thanks," Olivia replied. "So do you!"

Sophie felt her heart flutter. Olivia swallowed.

"So..." she looked away, digging her boot into the snow. "You ready?"

Sophie nodded. "Let's go!"

The two walked together, gazing at the clouds above. Their boots crunched the snow below.

"So... winter, huh?" Sophie laughed. "What do you think of snow?"

She wanted to facepalm. GREAT conversation starter...

Olivia shrugged. "It can be pretty."

Not as pretty as you, Sophia thought. Wait what??

"When I was a kid, I used to make snow angels all the time," Sophie told her, "and snowmen. That was so fun."

"Not so fun when snow got in your boots," Olivia grunted.

Sophie chuckled in agreement. Okay, getting better. She was not so jittery.

I can do this! She assured herself.

The two finally arrived at the park. Everything had been covered in a blanket of snow and ice, a chilly breeze passing by. There were a few young kids running around, playing in the snow, running through the trees.

Sophie looked thoughtful. "Snowmen, huh..."

She raced over to the snow, cupping some of it in her hands. Rolling it into a few balls, she created a little snowman. She placed a few sticks in it as well, giving it some arms.

"Hmmm," Oliva observed it, "not bad."

She sat opposite Sophie, grabbing some snow of her own. She created a far bigger snowman, which towered over Sophie's.

"Whoa, nice one!" Sophie grinned.

She's so talented, she thought, dreamily.

She realised she and Oliva were making eye contact again. She coughed, looking away.

"Sophie?" Olivia asked.

Sophie fanned her face. She couldn't believe she was starting to feel hot. Ugh, quick. She had to distract herself.

She watched some kids throwing snowballs at each other, and a devious idea formed in her mind. She formed a snowball in her palm.

WHACK!

Wait, what? Olivia had gotten her totally off guard!!

"REVENGE!" Sophie stood up, throwing a snowball right back.

This turned into a full-on snowball battle, the two throwing them back and forth. Sophie burst into giggles after scoring one right on Olivia's face; this was retaliated by an even bigger snowball on her own face.

"You got me," Sophie chuckled, slumping onto the snow.

She laid back, arms and legs spread out. She shivered, feeling the snow against her neck. Oliva copied her - luckily, her scarf kept any snow away from her neck. The two made snow angels, watching the clouds above. Little white flecks fell from above.

"Look!" Sophie gasped. "It's snowing!"

Little snowflakes fell from above. The girls sat up, reaching out their hands. Sophie tried to catch one on her tongue.

"Now you're eating them too?" Olivia asked.

"Hey, it's tradition," Sophie told her. "Haven't you ever eaten snowflakes before?"

"You're gonna get so cold," Olivia replied. "I mean... you're not even wearing a scarf."

Sophie grimaced, shivering. Yep, her neck was feeling pretty chilly.

"Maybe a little cold," she admitted.

Suddenly, Olivia edged closer to Sophie. Sophie felt the heat rising to her cheeks. Olivia offered her part of the scarf.

Sophie raised her brow. "Oh... hey! Thanks!"

She wrapped the scarf around her neck. She and Olivia were so close; they could feel each other's warmth.

She's right there she's right next to me she-

Olivia was looking down, her own cheeks flushed. Sophie coughed. She had to say something, just think of something-

"Uhh..." she looked around. "How about a selfie?"

Well, that was painfully awkward of her. But too late, she was already pulling out her phone.

"Why not," Olivia shrugged.

They both beamed at the camera. Despite all the blushing, Sophie found it easy to smile. She just genuinely enjoyed being around Olivia.

"Thanks for coming out with me today," she told Olivia.

Olivia smiled. "Thank you, too."

"I mean it," Sophie got a bit closer. "Thank you."

Olivia grew closer as well. "Hey... same to you."

They were staring into each other's eyes once again.

We're close enough to kiss, Sophie thought.

Sophie suddenly moved back. No no. This was all just friendship. Nothing more to it. She coughed, turning the other cheek.

The snowflakes were still falling. She sighed, and couldn't help but face Olivia once more. It was a wonderful day, maybe she'd indulge herself, just a little bit.
