1 - The Dream

My body suddenly jolted as I awoke. I could've sworn I had been falling. I turned over in my bed and looked at my alarm clock, tilting my head a bit to see that it read 2:45. I could tell it wasn't the afternoon based solely on how dark it was outside. I turned over and let out a sigh of relief at the beautiful sight in front of me.

Next to me was Blake Marnx, my boyfriend. We've known each other since we were about 3 and we'd do anything for each other. He's the one who helped me moved all the way from Bozeman, Montana to Eagan, Minnesota. We have two lovely neighbors, Rory Rhynhart and Charlie Elrod. They've both been very nice since we moved. We have them over a lot, they're quite a charming couple. Sometimes I joke and say they're only here for Riley, our dog. He's me and Blake's 7-year-old Irish Wolfhound, although he is getting a bit old now. But enough about them, I suppose.

I could've stared at his pretty face forever, he looked so adorable and peaceful. I could hear him snoring lightly. God, I can't believe how lucky I am to be his. I got lost in thought and ended up falling asleep without having a nightmare this time. I also woke up on my own accord, too. Before I could even open my eyes, the smell of pancakes wafted into the bedroom. I wasn't very surprised when I turned over and Blake wasn't there, he always woke up before me and took extra care not to wake me up. I stretched, put my glasses on, and got ready for the day. "G'morning Ollie!!" his soft voice spoke as I stepped into the kitchen. I let out a smile as he turned from the stove to look at me. Riley walked up to me, his nails emitting a loud sound for every step. I pet him and walked up to Blake, immediately wrapping my arms around his lower back. I moved my head to rest my chin on his chest and look up at him. "Love, have I ever told you how pretty you are?" He let out a small chuckle and kissed my forehead. I buried my head in his chest as he rested his head on mine. We stayed like that for a good bit. I've never felt safer with anyone else. I wish we could have stayed like that forever. I gave him one last squeeze before I sadly let go.

"Awh, what's the occasion? You rarely cook, and pancakes? You've gotta have some announcement." He knew pancakes were my favorite. "Well.." He stood up straighter and exhaled. "I got a real good job super close by! The pay is great, and I'll always be near if anything ever happens." My face lit up with pure joy for him. He'd been searching for jobs he could apply at since before we even moved. "That's incredible! When do you start?" "Tomorrow!" I was so happy for him. He seemed so genuinely happy in this moment, he loved his old mechanic job back in Montana so dearly. It was so adorable hearing him rant about how much he adored it, even if I didn't understand everything he was saying.

We spoke over breakfast and cuddled on the couch for the rest of the day, watching our favorite movies. Before we went to sleep, he set out some clothes that he didn't mind getting dirty. We eventually calmed ourselves down and went to sleep. And then it happened. Again. Like it has since the week before we moved here, except for a slight disturbing change. Little did I know, this change would alter my life.
