Awakening

Chapter 1

Ravyn hated her life in the harem, that she was now certain of.

Each and every day started and ended the same way, just like the one that came before. It had become a tedious never ending cycle, each morning she awoke with sun, it's rays caressing her face tenderly, much like a mother's touch would have as it brought her out of the world of dreams into the waking world, which had morphed into a nightmare of late.

She had never felt the need to dress straight away, the need to enjoy those first few moments of the morning where she could be herself for just a few moments more. Until the serving girls would make their daily attempt to let them wash, bath and dress her for the day but alas she would never relent. It was the last piece of independence that she possessed. Rayvn would fight tooth and nail for this one last freedom. This wasn't home, it was a gilded cage.

Home was a lost dream, one that she could never achieve again whilst she was still trapped here.

This way of life if you could even call it that, was not what she wanted, not anymore at least. Ravyn was not even her true name, it was given to her by the mistress of harem the day that she had entered the harem. It was their way to cut her off from her past, her former life. It had been so long since she had heard or spoken her truest name that could barely remember what it was.

She knew her place in this glorified world within a world, that she was simply nothing more than a glorified sex slave for that foolish man who sat on high and dared to called himself their ruler and king. Even she now was starting to see him for what he was, nothing more than a tyrant and cruelly dominated and controlled every inch of the lives of his 'loyal' subjects. Each and everyone of them were his pieces on a chessboard that he manipulated to fit his end game that no-one knew.

Her eyes had suddenly been opened to the truth that had always been there but she had been wearing rose tinted glasses, blinding her to the dark truth behind the lies they were spoon fed. At first it felt like she had been hit by a ton of bricks. This man, who she had once idolised, revered like a god amongst mortal men was nothing but a cruel, sadistic creature that thoroughly enjoyed the game as he played with his mere little puppets. All the time knowing that he and he only possessed the power to cut their individual strings or have their heads removed from their shoulder at his leisure. It was realisation she wished that hadn't had.

Her little bubble had burst when she witnessed this cruel streak. Rayvn had been in the wrong place at the wrong but thankful, she hadn't be discovered.

She needed to escape this hell.

It dawned upon her, why was she having this sudden change of heart? What had led her to that one moment. There had been no summon from the King but there had been a message delivered to the Madam. Who was pulling her red string of fate?

Ravyn was lost, consumed by the strength of this emotion that had shot through her. It was if she had been hit by a bolt of lightning shocking to truly open her eyes and see the world around her for the first time. The warming light from the sun had momentarily blinded her, as thoughts started to buzz through her mind, making her question everything that she had known. She questioned the life which she had been leading, the path she had been walking down all this time.

No longer did Ravyn want to be viewed as a juicy piece of meat placed on a silver platter, to be tasted by every man that had the right to summon her from the harem for their own pleasure. She was not just another warm body to enjoy during the cold, long and lonely nights by Captain of the royal guard when his wife and mistress were away, visiting their relatives.
