I wait outside in front of his door in the bitter, merciless winter weather. I pull down my black trench to mask the sharp knife I kept in my pocket of my black jeans.
I pull out some pills from my coat pocket and take two of them. I instantly feel light-headed but I recover quickly.
"Marcus! Open up!" I pound loudly on the front door of his house. I see the curtain of the window shift open and his face pops out the other side. He gives me a confused look and I gesture at him to open the door. He shakes his head and closes the curtain again.
After a few minutes of waiting, the door finally opens up.
He stands at the doorway with reading glasses and his sleepwear.
"Harry? What the hell are you doing here so late? It's 3 in the morning!" He snaps at me.
"I'm so sorry I woke you up, Marcus but I had an emergency. Do you mind if I came in?" I asked him in the calmest tone possible.
"Why?"
"Can't an old friend want to see his old friend?" I smile at him.
"At three o'clock in the morning?" He says obviously angry that I woke him up.
"Marcus, please." I beg.
He stares at me for a while then sighs. "Yeah, I'm sorry, come in." He stepped aside to allow me to walk into his house. "You can wait in the living room if you want."
I walk in and I am impressed at what I saw. His house was big and very modern even though it's quite small on the outside.
"You want something to eat, Harry?" He asks from the kitchen.
"I don't know, what do you have?" I begin to take of my boots that are covered in snow and bang them on the floor mat in front of the door.
"I have leftover sandwiches, some milk-
"Water will be fine, thank you." I say politely. He shrugs and closed the fridge, turning on the sink to get me a glass of water.
I took a seat in his living room, admiring every detail of it. His leather couch went perfectly with the color of his wa- wait, what the fuck? Snap out of it, Harry. You came here for a reason.
He placed the glass on water on the table in front of me and I eye him down as he sits on the longer leather couch next to mine.
"Do you want to take off your coat?" He ask.
"No, thank you, it's gonna be a quick visit." I tell him and begins to play with his fingers.
"So...." I begin. "How have you been, Marcus?"
"Uh...fine. Listen, Harry it's great to see you and everything but I'm really tired-"
"You have a family, Marcus?" I asked, ignoring his demands to let him sleep.
"No... I live alone." He says suspiciously. I can tell he's getting uncomfortable with me.
I get up to grab my glass of water and begin to pace around the table.
"Really? No wife? No kids?" I ask and he nods.
"Damn, that's weird you're a pretty handsome guy you know that, right?" I tell him and he nods again. I chuckle and take a giant drink of water from my glass in my hand.
