Aubrey fiddled with the tie on her uniform as she stood on Platform Nine and Three Quarters. She looked up and down the platform as crowds of students started to make their way onto the Hogwarts Express.
"Where are they?" She whispered nervously to herself. Then she saw them, making their way towards her. A smile spread across her face as she started to push her trolley towards her friends.
Lucas stuck his hand in the air and waved it frantically and Aubrey did the same. Sam called out to her.
"Hi -------!"
Aubrey's smile dropped as soon as the name left his mouth. It washed over her like ice water. Jade elbowed Sam in the ribs.
"Oops! Sorry, uh, Aubrey." Sam apologized.
"It's fine, don't worry about it. I know it's a big change." Aubrey said, forcing a smile.
The group fell into an awkward silence, which Jade quickly broke by giving Aubrey a hug.
"Let me be the first to say," She said "That you look amazing!"
"Thanks!" Aubrey giggled, blushing a little.
"Yeah! You're totally rocking the new uniform." Lucas said.
"The long hair is also a good look for you." Sam added.
"Do a spin! Do a spin!" Jade said.
Aubrey giggled and spun around, her skirt fanned out as she spun.
"Amazing!" Jade laughed.
Aubrey blushed even more, and looked at her shoes, a big smile on her face. She tucked her hair behind her ear.
"You're all so sweet. Thank you for being so supportive over the summer. I know it must have taken some getting used to."
"We gotta support our girl." Lucas smiled.
Sam and Jade nodded in agreement.
The train whistle blew, and the group started to make their way onto the train, laughing and talking about what they each did that summer, climbing onboard to make their journey to Hogwarts.
--------------
Aubrey looked out the window of the Hogwarts Express as the train sped its way past rivers and hills. She smiled at the pleasant view while she listened to Sam and Lucas argue about their favourite Quidditch teams.
"Puddlemore United is easily better!" Lucas exclaimed.
Sam laughed. "Sure, and my mother was Albus Dumbledore. The Ballycastle Bats could fly CIRCLES around them."
Aubrey listened to the conversation happily. She was never much for Quidditch, but she missed hearing her friends talk about it. It felt like the summer had lasted forever.
"Hey Aubrey..." Jade asked softly.
"Mhm?"
"You don't have to answer this if you don't want to, but, uh, well we were just, um..." Jade mumbled, not meeting Aubrey's eyes.
"What?" Aubrey said, the smile dropping a little from her face. She noticed that the conversation Lucas and Sam were having had stopped as soon as Jade had started talking
"Umm..." Jade looked at Lucas and Sam, a pleading look in her eyes. Sam looked out the door of the compartment. Lucas met Jade's eyes and sighed.
"We were just wondering what dormitory you would be in this year." Lucas asked.
Both Sam and Jade avoided Aubrey's eyes
"...The girl's dormitory." Aubrey replied coolly.
"Right! That makes sense." Lucas said quickly, Jade and Sam both nodded. "But, well, Sam and I can't go into the girl's dormitory, because, you know, the stairs, so we just, I mean, well, uh..." Lucas looked at Jade and Sam, but they were both looking anywhere but at him or Aubrey.
