Prologue

The fifth planet out of seven, that revolved around the  small star, Wildestar, was called Plaisir. The entrepreneur, who purchased the planet - when it was still possible to do such a thing - had had a dream of turning the entire planet into a vacation playland. With respect to location, it had been perfect, being close to the center of the Union of Solar Systems, and yet otherwise considered rather worthless, since it lacked valuable minerals or other desirable planetary riches that would have made it more than just a rock. As it was, essentially an enormous boulder of low monetary value, it was still viewed as important to some, from a military standpoint.

The owner, Emmanuel Jorge Carroll, founder of the uber-luxurious resort, Hidden Secrets, and well-known venture capitalist, convinced billions of businesses and individuals to invest in his idea of a playground for adults on the planet, Plaisir. Then he realized just how difficult his project would be, to bring to fruition. The terraforming would take centuries, not years. He was forced to build the entire resort below ground, carved into the igneous rock of the planet, with landing sites built on the surface and long shafts carrying visitors to the subterranean fantasy world created deep within the planet. The cost of building the resort had been astronomical and only the very rich or the very privileged could afford to partake of the pleasures offered on Plaisir.
