The end to a long and stressful day of work had finally come to an end. Evelyn grabbed her lanyard and all her other things, tossed her bag over her shoulder and headed towards the entrance. "I'll see you tommorow Janice" Evelyn smiled to the old lady sat behind the desk which read 'Reception'
"of course Doctor, make sure to get some rest alright dear" The old lady said doing some final sorting of papers before she clocked off herself. Evelyn scanned her card at the door and put in her worker number before leaving the building, dont get me wrong Evelyn loved being a doctor but some days where just far too stressful.
She laid her eyes upon her car, at last freedom. She unlocked the door allowing her to open it and sit inside. Evelyn slumped in the chair and sighed. Evelyn hastily pressed her husbands nunber into her phone and connecting it to her radio. "hello..? Evelyn?" her husband said with a grunt
"Hey! yes its me, just got outa work and was planning on heading to the store, want anything?" Evelyn smiled hearing her husbands voice, it had only been a couple of hours since they last spoke but his voice always seemed to comfort her.
"Chocolate" the man mumbled
"of course! anything else?" Evelyn replied enthusiastically
the phone was silent
"Daryl?" Evelyn said questioning whether her husband was still there.
"hmm?" The man just simply hummed in response, nothing more, nothing less, just reassurance that he was still there. Evelyn smiled to herself "Is there anything else you want?"
"nah im good thanks" Daryl mumbled
After a couple of minutes of driving and countless accounts of road rage Evelyn had finally made it too the store. She turned of the engine and stepped out of the car. Evelyn then walked into the store grabbing a basket on her way in. She spent ages perusing around the chocolate isle hoping to find Daryls favorite. She had spotted the chocolate on the very bottom shelf and shot down to grab it. Evelyn placed the treat in her basket and headed to pay.
After a couple of minutes Evelyn arrived home "Daryl!! im home!" she announced walking through the door placing her bag and lanyard by the door so she doesn't forget them tomorrow.
"im in here." Daryl slightly rising his voice. Evelyn walks into the living room holding Daryls chocolate, "here" Ev says smiling sitting down besides her husband, Daryl smiles as he takes the chocolate and turns to his wife. "Hard day?" Daryl asks
"Yeah...you know the old guy, mr walker." Evelyn says slightly looking down, Daryl hums in response
"He was getting better. But then this morning he just took a turn for the worst.." Evelyns eyes began to tear up. Doctor work was never easy. especially when you had been working on getting a patient better and its going great snd then...
Daryl puts a reassuring hand on Evs shoulder.
"I couldn't help him Daryl. I failed another patient." She said putting her head in her hands.
"Hey.. its not your fault. you did everything you could to help him." Daryl said rubbing Evelyns back. Evelyn began to sob. She kept saying how she had failed him, how she could have done better.
"Evelyn. hey look at me" Daryl said cupping her cheeks, "Its not your fault theres absolutely nothing else that could have been done, you did everything you possibly could have" Daryl said staring deeply into Evs blue eyes. "I-" Evelyn could barely form words. Daryl pulled her into a tight hug and pressed a kiss on her head. They stayed like that for a while.
"We should really get some sleep, its pretty late.." Evelyn said yawning in the middle of her sentence.
"Yeah, you seem tired." Daryl said standing up. Evelyn followed behind and walked into their bedroom. Evelyn got changed into some comfy clothes and chucked her work clothes on the floor. Daryl got changed also and got into bed awaiting Evelyns presence. Shortly after him Evelyn got into bed and moved closer to him. Daryl wrapped his arms around her and rested his head upon hers. "I love you Daryl." Evelyn said
"hmm" Daryl simply hummed in response. He rarely ever said the words 'i love you' to Evelyn but she knew he loved her.
