Hermione Granger gasped loudly as her head emerged from the cold water. She wheezed painfully as the snickers above her head continued. She swam with shaky limbs to the dock, pulling herself out of the water. She saw her wand and reached for it, dread sitting in her stomach as she saw the other end of it in the water below. They had snapped her wand. "Wars over, Mudblood. " Yaxley growled, kicking her in the face.

The war... over? There was no way. Harry was going into the woods right now to sacrifice himself, and then Neville will have the snake. This was all carefully thought out. She gasped as she was suddenly chained, not realizing what was going on until it did. Hermione wicked the blood from her nose off of her lips, walking obediently with them towards the main entrance of the school. As they approached, she saw him.

Harry Potter's body was being held in the air, his arm limp and dangling. She could hear Ginny's cries as they walked through the broken gate. Death Eaters stood behind their snake-like leader, his wand lazily pointed up to keep the boy who once lived in the air. Ron thrashed against his chains once he saw Hermione. Hermione had no energy to fight back. What was the point? Harry truly was dead. And even if he wasn't, he wouldn't be foolish enough to attack now.

Hermione hissed in pain as her knees hit the cold floor, shards of debris digging into her jeans and further into her skin. She kept her head bowed, listening to Ginny cry in the background. Her eyes lifted, and she scanned the heads of the crowds to see that there was no bright blonde. Well, only one. She recognized Lucius Malfoy's sneer grin as soon as she walked through the gates. Where were Draco and Naricssa? "Cowards," Hermione breathed, chuckling humorlessly.

Her heart sank to the bottom of her feet when she heard Voldemort's proud cackle. "He's dead!" He cheered, tears springing to her eyes as she heard the cheers of all of the Death Eaters. Proud of themselves. Proud of killing children. She thought of Lavender Brown on the floor, her eyes wide and dead as she was being eaten by a werewolf. All for what?

For nothing.

"Harry Potter is dead! The reign ends here, and another begins. An age where us Pure-Bloods are the true rulers of this world! Where Mudbloods and Half-Bloods become our servants!" Voldemort continued, whimpering being released like waves from the people around her. Voldemort turned and grinned evilly, his red eyes slanting as he focused on the crowd in front of him. He raised his hand, and Hermione felt her body being lifted from the floor.

She grunted as she lifted her head, looking the vileness straight in the eye. To this day, she is not afraid of him. In fact, she pitied him. "Miss. Granger, my most favorite Mudblood." He chuckled, the sneers erupting from behind him matching his. Bellatrix grinned easily up at her, mouthing the slur that now burned against Hermione's skin. She heard Ron's struggles behind her, but she didn't move. "Oh, what to do with you.... Here's a start," he grinned. He left Hermione completely, and she gasped loudly as her back hit the cold pavement.

Groaning in pain, she pushed herself up using her fingers only, looking up. She gasped loudly as something fell towards her, sending her head straight back towards the ground. She screamed as she realized Harry's lifeless body was stuck on top of her. Shouts and protests of anger erupted behind her as cackling continued in front of her. Hermione closed her eyes and focused on her breathing. She groaned gently as she felt something moving in his pocket, and she lifted her head slightly to look down at it.

Harry's wand, slid out of his pocket and rolled underneath Hermione's body. Her heart pounded. Maybe he was alive. She gasped as the realization had hit her. Whether Harry was dead or alive, Voldemort was going to rule their world for at least a few years. She had to get out. Stop it. She knew what she had to do in order to stop it. She had to free Ron and Neville at the very least, fighting on her own to get to them with hundreds of his followers attacking her. Well, if she died, she died for a purpose.

Hermione gripped the unfamiliar wood in her hand, muttering a spell to release the chains binding her wrists. She gasped as they released, drowning out his sermons behind her. She held the wand tightly, sitting up slowly. She kept her wrists behind her back to keep suspicion off of her. She ignored the weight of Harry's body, swallowing back the tears as the last time she felt his weight she was hugging him goodbye.

She laid the wand on her waist, raising her knees to aim it towards one of the remaining towers. She channeled her magic, pushing it to the wand. She grunted loudly as a spark flew from the tip, hitting the tower. It came crumbling down towards the Death Eaters. As their attention was turned, Hermione pushed Harry's body off of her, getting to her feet. She grabbed Harry's wrist and transfigured him into a bag, slinging it over her shoulder.

"Hermione, watch out!" Ginny screamed, hexes flying by her shoulder. She ran over to them, cursing to herself as red beams struck other students. At least they weren't green yet. She quickly banished the chains from Ron and Neville, sending them running out of the gates. Neville jumped off the bridge in the water, and Ron went running for the hills. Once out of the boundaries, he Apparated.

Hermione was working on Ginny when the Death Eaters grabbed her by the bag. She yelled loudly, struggling against their grip as Ginny was seized, too. The bag was yanked from her shoulders and tossed to the side, the bag becoming Harry's body again as it rolled. She was forced onto her knees in front of Voldemort, his red eyes swirling almost like lava. "Gryffindor until the end. Confident, brave... foolish!" He hissed the last word.

Hermione was... tired at this point. Neville and Ron had gotten out, so the hope hadn't entirely died. Hermione chuckled and spit at his feet, the crowd gasping. And as she stared into the eyes of death, she remembered Harry and Ron. All their time at the Burrow and running around school. Because even though they were left to save the Wizarding world, they were just kids who wanted to have fun. She remembered kissing Ron, and she remembered holding Harry as she closed her eyes. Remembering the boy she loved.

And Hermione welcomed Death like an old friend.
