Washington:Charlies POV:
Its been awhile since Steve and I have moved to Washington D.C. We finally got our second date and a few after that. Everything with him is perfect, he is my home. I haven't told him yet, I wanted to be sure, but I love him. I have never been in love before but when you know you know. And with Steve I definitely know, this is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Every morning Steve and I go out for a morning run together. It is so peaceful and calming. I am the only one who can keep up with him him due to the serum.
"On your left" I hear Steve say to the man we passed up for probably the fifth time now. I couldn't help but let out a small laugh. As we go to pass him up again he beats us to it
"Don't say it! Don't you say it!" the man says a little irritated.
"On your left" I decide to say and Steve and I both laugh.
The man tries to catch up to us but quickly falls behind bending over trying to breath. Steve and I look at each other with a smile and walk over hand in hand to the man to make sure he is okay.
"Need a medic" Steve asks
"I need a new set of lungs. You guys just ran like 13 miles in 30 minutes." The man said baffled.
"I guess we got a late start Steve" I said trying to sound disappointed.
"Oh really? you both should be ashamed of yourselves. You should take another lap." He said with a pause then continued "Did you just take it, I assume you both took it" He said sarcastically.
I instantly liked this guy, he would make a great friend. He reminded me a lot of James.
"What unit you with?" Steve asks knowingly.
" 58, Pararescue. But now I'm working down at the VA. Sam Wilson."
"Steve Rogers, and this is my lovely lady, Charlotte Williams." We both Shake Sams hand.
"I kind of put that together. Must have freaked you guys out coming home after the whole defrosting thing." Sam said honestly.
"It is definitely different. But I have someone who makes me feel at home." I said Grabbing Steves hand and looking up to him giving him a smile. He looks down to me with the smile that always makes me melt.
"It's good to meet you Sam" Steve says as we turn to leave.
"Its your bed right?" He asks.
"What's that?" Steve asked curious. I knotted my brows together trying to understand.
"Your bed, it's too soft. When I was over there I'd sleep on the ground and use rock for pillows, like a caveman. Now I'm home, lying in my bed, and it's like..."
" Lying on a marshmallow. Feel like I'm gonna sink right to the floor." Steve says, i nod in agreement. I got lost in my own thought. Steve and I haven't spent the night together, we are old fashioned so it wasn't much of a thought. But now that I think about it, would being with Steve help me sleep, make me feel comfortable? Just his presence makes me feel at home. I quickly snap out of it curious about Sam.
"How long?" I ask him
"Two tours. How did a woman get into the military back then?" He asked curious.
"Persistence, I went to every recruitment center almost every day.' I said laughing a little at the memory.
"You miss the good old days huh?" Sam asked
"Well, things aren't so bad. Food's a lot better, we used to boil everything. No polio is good. Internet, so helpful. I've been reading that a lot trying to catch up. But the best part is this woman right here, she gives me reason." Steve says pulling me close, I smile so grateful for him.
"You guys are very lucky to have each other" Sam says smiling. "Marvin Gaye, 1972, "Trouble Man" soundtrack. Everything you've missed jammed into one album." He continues.
Steve and I both nod "Ill put it on the list" Steve says
I Feel a vibration in my pocket and realize it was my phone that I am still not used to "Mission alert. Extraction imminent. Meet at the curb. :)" Nat text read. I showed it to Steve.
"Alright, Sam, duty calls. Thanks for the run. If that's what you wanna call running." Steve says shaking Sams hand
"Oh, so that's how it is?" Sam says pretending to be offended.
"It was wonderful meeting you Sam." I say shaking his hand.
"Okay. Any time you guys wanna stop by the VA, make me look awesome in front of the girl at the front desk, just let me know." Sam quickly tells us as we go to leave.
"We will keep that in mind" I respond laughing.
Just then Natasha pulled up to the curb and rolled down her window "Hey, fellas. Either one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I'm here to pick up a couple of fossils." She said laughing.
Steve, being the perfect gentlemen he is, opens the door for me to hop in.
