"Eret?"
The voice was as soft as a light breeze blowing through spring air, and as Eret scribbled away on his piece of paper, he suddenly halted, his eyes widening in surprise and happiness.
"Anna?" he questioned in an uncertain voice, but he almost dropped his pen when a heard a small chuckle coming from the other end of the phone. "Surprise?" the brunette asked, her tone smug and sly. "Holy shit-- Anna! Hey, how have you been?!" Eret exclaimed in a happy tone, pushing himself up from his leather chair. "I've been good, and you?" the girl responded, happiness evident in her tone. "Good," Eret stated, and he couldn't help but roll his eyes at his next words, to which Anna laughed at again. "The King's being a bitch, per usual."
Anna and Eret had always been close ever since they found her at the Black Berries orphanage. She was only a little girl then, and after the orphanage had gone to waste, Eret found the village of Mount Helicon, where Anna's current mother, Bethany, adopted her and took her in as her own. It had been a few long months since they've spoken to one another, but again, their friendship was an unbreakable one, and Eret was just happy that Anna had decided to reach out to him.
"Actually, Eret," Anna started, catching the boy's attention as his thoughts started straying. "I called you for a reason." Eret raised an eyebrow at this, responding with, "Oh?" Anna sighed deeply from the other end of the line, and Eret could already feel his nerves beginning to pile up somewhere deep in his stomach. "It- it probably isn't anything, but," Anna began again, hesitating because now that she was about to voice it out loud, it sounded ridiculous and over-looked into. "I saw one of the King's hunters a couple of minutes ago here-- in Mount Helicon, and he wasn't alone," she quickly explained, feeling blood rush up her neck and bloom over her cheeks.
Eret narrowed his eyes at the new found information. "What would a hunter be doing in Mount Helicon? I thought the king and the royale community agreed not to go back there-- after everything's that happened..." Eret wondered. "What did this knight and his companion look like?" he questioned Anna, sitting back down in his seat to finish signing some contracts and other papers. "Well, the hunter was shorter than the other. He had chocolate brown hair and his eyes were dark and heated with something I've never seen before. His face was a diamond shape and he had a small amount of hair growing on his face," she stated, trying to recall all the details from the man she saw a couple of minutes ago. "He also didn't wear the original armor-- it was changed, but I'm going to assume that because it was probably ruined and dirty. Though I don't see how it could've gotten to that point if he were coming in and out consistently of the castle. Well, I mean unless he hasn't been at the castle in a while," Anna began rambling, speaking her thoughts out aloud while Eret contently listened.
Eret furrowed his eyebrows, speaking before he could get a description of the other person. "Wait, did he have a sword?" he asked, his tone slightly higher than the one he used before. "Yeah..why?" Anna admitted, amused by the boy's strange tactics. "What did it look like?" Eret questioned again as he ignored the girl's question, sitting up from his chair for the second time during their phone call. "It was like every other sword in the kingdom. Black, but this one had stripes of blue now that I think of it," said the brunette.
"Oh, my god," Eret breathed, weaving throughout the hallways of the palace, making his way into the main room. "What? What's wrong, Eret?" Anna questioned, becoming concerned, but Eret could barely hear her as her voice was blocked out through the murky water of his thoughts. "Listen, I'll call you back, Anna," Eret said after a while, abruptly ending the phone call as he approached the king. Upon entering the room, the king scoffed loud enough for Eret to hear, saying, "No one ever teach you how to knock?" but Eret wasn't having any of it. Instead, he got straight to the point. "It's George. I know where he is," Eret breathed out, panting softly from his mini marathon. This seemed to catch Philza's attention as he fixed his posture, looking down at his knight. "And how can you be so sure?" the higher up questioned, and Eret's face scrunched up in frustration. "I just know that it is, okay? Listen-- we don't have time for this. Is there anyway that you can get me through to Wilbur?" Eret stated in a rushed tone.
