Starting Out

"Link Start!" I shouted, excited for the new game to begin. A game company had made a new Sword Art Online, the virtual reality game that had a horrible incident where players couldn't log out and were trapped for two years. This time you can actually log out. Supposedly. As the game booted up, I only saw darkness and heard nothing but my own breathing. Then, a voice appeared.
"Welcome to Sword Art Online: Reboot" the voice said. It sounded male.
"Please state your name"
"Yuri. Yuri Masato"
"Thank you for buying the game. Now, to begin, please choose your preferred weapon on the screen in front of you" There was nothing, so I reached my hand out into the darkness and a white screen appeared. There were many weapons. A battle Axe, a bow, a katana, a longsword, a short sword and a staff. There was a scroll option, so I flicked my hand left. The screen changed, with only one option left on this one.
"Dual wield..."
I muttered to myself, reading it."Maybe..." I turned back to the other screen. "I'm not gonna choose the battle axe... Or the bow... Or the short sword...or the staff...the katana? Yes. I flip the screen and tap the "dual wield" option.
"Please select which two weapons you would like to use" the announcer said. I selected dual katana's. Then another screen popped up.
"Choose your armor class"
I look at them. Light, medium, and heavy. I thought about it, then said: "how about medium armor" and tap that option.
"Please choose your appearance"
Then questions appeared on the screen, one by one.
Favorite color: blue. Midnight blue.
Hair style: Brown, swept to the side and combed.
Body build: Slightly skinny
Muscle tone: slightly muscular.
I wanted to keep it as real as possible.
"Thank you for building your character. Have fun playing" the announcer said, then my body was...flung? That's what it felt like. From the darkness into an almost blinding light. I stumble, then gain my balance. "Jeez... Rude wake-up call" I say, looking around as large screen fills the center of the square me-and all of the other players-were at. Then the announcer came back, this time showing his face on the screen.
"Hello all, and welcome to the reboot of Sword Art Online. The original SAO. Now I know that all of you might be scared because of what happened during the last SAO incident, but be happy, you can log out any time" the man on the screen paused, catching his breath. "Now look into your inventory and look at the contents" I swipe down with my left hand then click the inventory button, labeled with a person, shoulders up. "You shall find starter gear in your favorite color and your starter weapon. There is PKing in this game, but rest assured you will NOT die in real life" I look at the items. There. My two midnight blue katana's lay, and my midnight blue medium armor. "Cool" I said, equipping it all. There was also a mirror. I had heard about that from the original SAO. It makes your avatar look like you in real life. I left it there then closed the menu. "Now all of you are in the starter town. There are quests to get XP so that you may level up..." I tuned it out, already knowing the info. I look around, seeing that some people had used the mirrors. I chuckle at some of the fatter people. I'm such a dick. "...as you progress through the world you will gain abilities as you level up. The system has already given you one random ability. Don't tell others that ability unless you are in a party with them. When you form a party, all of the XP and currency, gold, will be divided up equally among the party members. When your party grows larger than four members you can form a guild. If you get tired of adventuring you may get a job. The job list is: blacksmith (armor),blacksmith (weapons), cook,guild manager,fisherman,hunter,alchemist, and enchanter. There are many more jobs in the manual. You may only have a max of three jobs. Watch your backs. Keep close to your party members. And most of all enhance your gear and keep your gear from breaking. That is all" then the screen disappeared. "Keep close to your party members? Naaah" I say then laugh. "Cool though" I say and look around. The people began to leave, walking away, mostly to the quest board. "Why not" I say and walk over, pushing my way through the crowd until I get there. I tap on the board, and a few quests pop up. I select the easiest looking one: "kill a wild boar and bring back its hide" . Then I see another quest below it "gather 500 gold" and shrug. Let's go for two" and I accept that one as well. Looking at the map in my inventory, the closest fields are to the east. I begin heading there, confident that I will succeed.
