NEVEAH MONROE
WORD COUNT: 1243 WORDS
ENJOY!

My day had officially been over before it could even start. I was upset. I was more than upset. I felt a range of emotions. I felt anger, confusion, curiosity, and for some strange reason, joy.

I had just found out that I had been Azure's partner for this stupid project that could've been done individually. I had also been upset that I had to get Azure's phone number. My plan to get away from her at all costs had been falling out the window.

I wondered why the universe had involved me with Azure so many times. First, it was the two of us sharing a class, then being in a dorm building, which caused us to eventually find out with live next door to one another, and finally, having to work with her.

I felt mixed emotions. I was angry at the fact that I had to work with Azure. I worked with her once, and she was a control freak when it came to the work. She wanted it done her way; only thinking about her and her grade.

At the same time, I was glad to work with Azure. Thinking about all this, it made me excited in a way. I had realized that I had enjoyed the rivalry, even though it was tough to admit. I enjoyed having something to compete against, someone to compete with.

I missed having a challenge like this. Azure wasn't a challenge to beat, I knew that; but if was exciting to at least have something to do other than go to class and hang out with friends from time to time.

I liked it. Maybe Azure did too. Maybe that's why she does stuff like this all the time. She does fight from time to time, or at least that's all I know by hearing people talk. On the other other hand, she probably just does stuff like that to get to me.

I walked to the library. I had things to do, but also a project to plan. Azure said she was going to do better than me in this project, and I wasn't going to give her the chance. I wasn't going to give her the opportunity to even think she could. I was going to plan out this project, and for once and for all, make sure that she stops this weird obsession with trying to be better than me.

My classes had ended. Currently, I was hanging out with Zora. The two of us were in her dorm. She had been talking about Amir nonstop. I think that the two of them got together. I don't know for sure, but I can definitely tell that she likes him.

Zora and I had ordered some food. I had been eating mine at her desk, while Zora had been eating hers in her bed. It was silent for a bit, just us enjoying each other's presence while eating.

Zora was the first to speak up. "So, I heard from my roommate that there's a party tonight. It's in the frat house. I heard that most of the student body is going to be there, are you coming?"

"Maybe. I don't know, I don't have a date and I'm pretty sure you're just going to be with Amir. I don't want to be alone all night."

"Well, besides us plus him, we were planning to go in a group. I can ask if any of his friends are single or anything."

"Okay, thanks. Don't make it too obvious though. I don't want to seem desperate." I say, trying to laugh it off.

"I got you." Zora says. She stuffs her face with a bite of her food before looking at her phone texting someone real quick. She looks up to me before speaking. "I don't know if your cool with Azure and all, but she's coming too, you know, with Amir and all. Is that alright? I know you two still aren't on good terms."

"It's fine, it's not like I'm going to talk to her anyways. I'll only talk to her if it's about our project."

Zora ears perk up. She stops eating, taking a long glance at me. Her lips tug, showing a smile. "What project? Are you guys together?"

My face is now one of disgust. "Ew. No. I am not dating her. I would never." I ramble. "I told you before that we share a class together. The professor partnered us up together. Azure hates me. The only way for me not to be her partner is if we both agree on it. I know her. She'll act like she wants to work with me out of spite."

"Maybe, maybe not. Who knows?" I could practically smell her amusement and happiness from this miles away.

"Zora for the last time I swear to god. I don't like her, she doesn't like me. It will never happen. Stop trying to ship us or whatever. We are not like your stories." I say.

I hated when Zora did this. She had been doing it since high-school. She reads a lot, and she always tries shipping people based of the "tropes" she reads. It's annoying to say the least.

"Alright, alright, I'll stop. For now." Zora smiles, and while I know she said she'll stop, I'm pretty sure she'll do something like this later.

"Is it a regular party? Or are we supposed to dress up as something?"

"I don't think so. Anyways, since we're going together, you can borrow something from my closet." Zora gets up, throwing away her box of food. She chews the remaining. "It doesn't start until late, but I'm going to get ready. The group wants to hang out and stuff before we go."

I get up, going to Zora's closet. As annoying as she was sometimes, I loved when she let me borrow her stuff. She had good everything. Good dresses, shirts, pants, shoes, sweaters; just a good style in general. It was like I had been blessed that we wore the same size.

I placed my fingers in the closet, looking and feeling all the options I had. I picked out a dark green dress. It was a sleeveless dress that went to my mid thigh. It had been cute, and I loved it since green was my favorite color. I had a matching one that me and Zora had wore when we went to an outing, but mine had been back in my dorm.

I looked at the bottom of the closet, rummaging for either green heels or black pumps. I found a pair of green pumps that had been been a similar color to my dress.

I placed the both the dress and the shoes to the side, going into the bathroom. Lucky Zora, the dorm room that she lived in didn't have conjoined bathrooms. The whole bathroom was just for her and her roommate.

By the time I enter the bathroom, Zora comes out in her bathrobe. "I'm going to take a shower next, if you want to match we can. I placed what I'll be wearing on your bed." I say.

Zora nods and leaves. I start taking off my clothes, getting ready to hop into the shower. As the water turns on and I get in, all I think about is that I hope that this goes well; that nothing happens while I hang out tonight.
