*Max POV*

The door snaps open as I automatically jump into a ready fighting stance. I stay in that position even after I see who walks into the room. It's that kid, the sea-green eyed one who I made eye contact with before I fell in the water. I lower my arms, but stay standing.

"Who are you? What am I doing here?" I cautiously ask with a note of panic in my voice.

"Whoah, it's ok. I'm not going to hurt you," the boy puts up his hands in an obvious "I surrender" gesture. He seems be telling the truth. And even if he wasn't, what could he do to me? He was just an average teenage boy...nothing like me and the Flock.

"You must be confused, but just relax, and I'll explain everything." I nod.

"Okay, first I'll start with a brief introduction. My name is Percy Jackson and I'm seventeen years old. Nice to meet you. Well, as nice as it is to see someone fall from the sky." Percy laughs a bit before continuing. "Anyhow, just to clarify things for you, currently you are on our camp grounds, specifically the infirmary. Before, you were somehow flying from the sky straight down into the lake at our camp. You looked pretty roughed up so we quickly rescued you while you were unconscious and brought you here. Its only been a couple hours but for some reason your injuries seem to have gotten quite a bit better."

"That's because of the non-human part of me," I silently think. And then I remember, the Flock! The boy, Percy, starts to say something but I quickly interrupt.

"Did you rescue anyone else? See anything else?"

Percy shakes his head. "Sorry, nope. Were you with others?" His face scrunches up a bit with worry, and I can't help but get the feeling that he understands just how important certain people in your life can be. I nod.

"Well," Percy says, "I think-"

Percy is interrupted by the door swinging open. This time, there are two people. A teenage girl with stormy gray eyes and blonde curls and a man in a wheel chair. I make eye contact with the man while the girl rushes over to Percy's side.

"Percy! Have you figured out who she is and what's she's doing here yet?" the girl asks, ignoring me.

Percy blinks. "Oh... I haven't asked her anything yet, I was just explaining."

"That's fine I guess, but we need information to help her and ourselves." The girl turns around and finally looks at me. "Hi, my name is Annabeth. Sorry if I was a bit abrupt when I came in. Anyways, I think Percy has explained everything that happened till now, yes?" I nod.

"Well then, we would like to ask you a few questions. Nothing very serious, but we would like to know. First, and I think most importantly, who are you and what are those... wings on your back?"

Ah, that. Can't believe I actually forgot that they would have seen them. I turn my head and look at my back. My wings somehow folded back in, probably naturally, but there are still some bandages on. I turn back and look at the girl, Annabeth. She looks at me straight in the eye, Percy and the strange man are also looking at me but I stare right back at Annabeth. Those eyes... they seem to stare right through me. I debate my options. I could tell the truth, create an outrageous lie, or just smash right through the wall. The latter was probably not the smartest. And this girl... she seemed like the type you just can't fool. I guess I would just tell the truth. They already helped me without doing anything else that could risk my identity.

I take a deep breath. Then I start talking. "My name is Maximum Ride. I don't think I'm gonna bother explaining my complicated past, at least not right now. I'll get straight to the point. I'm not a hundred percent human." I don't what I expected to happen. Maybe me getting tackled and knocked out, a couple screams, or just absolute disbelief. But none of that happened. Percy just blinked a few times. Annabeth looked at me again before saying, "Okay. Explain." I mentally shrugged anything could happen now.

"Those wings you saw, they come from the two percent of my dna that isn't human. Part of me is avian. I'm a result of a scientific experiment. Because of my non-human part, I heal faster then normal people, am quite tall especially in comparison to my weight, and can fly." I look at all three of the people in the room. Still relatively clam. "Now that you all know about me, I would greatly appreciate if I wasn't reported to the government or leaked to the media."

The man in the wheelchair finally spoke. "Well, I think we have some things to discuss. Percy and Annabeth I'll meet you two in the rec room with the others. And Maximum, please wait here and rest for a while longer. I assure you, we will do nothing to harm you."

Seeing as there was nothing to do now but wait, I nod and go sit down at the bed again as the three exit the room.

********

Hey peeps! I know, I am a COMPLETE liar. But hey, I feel ashamed about it, so lets move on. School is over now, and my travel plans for the summer were kinda wrecked (T^T). There is a WHOLE lot of time for me to write, but as you probably can already tell, I am a lazy procrastination warrior. I won't make empty promises, but I will put in SOME effort to actually write. This chapter was mostly just a filler so stay tuned, more exciting chapters to come!
