Today had been a hard day. You walked home quickly, as if moving fast would leave all of your negative thoughts behind.
You reached a crosswalk. The countdown indicated only ten seconds left. I can make it. You hurried across the street, watching the numbers decrease. You were almost at the other curb with two seconds to spare.
Smiling triumphantly, you took the last step towards the curb. Suddenly, a truck swerved around. You dodged out of the way, jumping to the curb. Safe!
The semi-truck whipped around, the end extending onto the curb. It swung towards you, going up onto the sidewalk . You noticed it and tried to jump out of the way, but it was too late.
The back end of the semi-truck whacked into you, knocking you over. Your head smacked into the sidewalk, pain shooting through you. You reached up, feeling your head. It was weirdly sticky. You attempted to stand up, but your limbs didn't work.
You lay on the ground, watching as the world faded away.
❤️❤️❤️
Strange beeping noises and the sound of hushed conversations woke you up. You tried to open your eyes, but they were strangely heavy, like you'd taken a really long nap. You rubbed at your eyes, hoping it'd help.
Your arm felt weird when you moved it. It was like it was longer or something. Weird. You rubbed your eyes and finally opened them.
The hushed conversations quickly increased in volume.
"They're awake! Call the kazekage!" someone yelled.
You slowly look around, peeping through half-closed eyes. You were in a large room, full of several people in what looked like medical scrubs, though you'd never seen any like those before.
Some machines were near your bed, and an IV was attached to your arm. Besides the weird scrubs and strange architecture, it looked like any other hospital.
How'd I end up here? You wracked your brain, searching for an explanation. All you could remember was lying on the ground with sticky stuff on your head. That must've been blood! You came here from a head injury?
"Excuse me, yn." a woman with a clipboard asked.
"Yeah?" you answered. She must be the main doctor.
"You've just woken up from a coma. It's alright if you're a bit disoriented." she said.
"Ok. How long was I asleep for?" you ask.
"For three weeks." she informed you. The doctor wrote a quick note on her clipboard. You wonder what she wrote.
A noise by the door drew your attention. A red-haired man stood in the doorway. He wore long white robes with green outlines. His eyes widened when he saw you, and it looked like he was going to cry.
"Yn!" he said, looking relieved.
"Hi?" you said questioningly. Who was this guy? He didn't look like a doctor.
The man entered the room and walked over to your bedside. He looked at you, smiling softly. His eyes still looked wet, and you were afraid he was going to cry.
"You're awake." he said, " I was so worried."
"Yeah." you replied lamely, "uh, do I know you?"
The man stepped back slightly, looking like you'd slapped him. He looked at you with wide, shocked eyes.
"You... don't know who I am?" he asked, voice sounding choked.
"Sorry, no." you replied, smiling apologetically. Hopefully that guy wouldn't cry. It'd just add to your slowly-growing headache.
"Excuse me, lord kazekage." the doctor from earlier said. The man, who's apparently 'lord kazekage', stepped back to allow her to take his place. The doctor stood next to your bed, and flipped a page on her clipboard.
"I have to ask you some questions." she explained, eyeing you critically. "What is your name?"
"Yn." you answered confidently. They must be asking you questions to check for a concussion. That was normal.
"Age?" she asked.
"Twenty."
"Birthday?" she asked, writing some notes down.
"*your birthday here*" you said. These questions were easy.
"Where do you live?"
"Um," never mind, these questions were hard. Your mind was all fuzzy. Only a few details were clear. They were your name, age, that you came here from a head injury, and you didn't know the red-head guy. Oh, and that you're in a hospital.
"I don't know?" you finally answered. The doctor nodded, writing more notes on her clipboard.
"Do you know why you're here?" the doctor continued.
"I hit my head and got in a coma." you replied, rubbing at the bandages around your head.
"Don't do that. You'll unwrap them." the doctor said.
"Are the questions over?" You asked.
"Yes." The doctor looked over the notes on her clipboard. She glanced at lord kazekage, before speaking to both of you. "We'll have to do some more in-depth testing, but for now, yn seems to have amnesia. You fit most of the criteria and exhibit the symptoms."
"Is there anything you can do?" Lord kazekage asked. He'd composed himself more, but still looked anxious.
"Again, we'll do more in-depth testing. That can help us get to the source, and potentially cure it. However, head issues and injuries are very fickle. There's no telling for sure."
Lord kazekage nodded. "When will they be released?"
"They'll have to stay for at least another day. We'll have to observe them to make sure there aren't any immediate complications." she replied, flipping the papers back on her clipboard. "Now, if you'll excuse us, we need to run some tests. I'm sorry, lord kazekage, but you have to leave."
The man looked like he was about to protest, but changed his mind. He turned to leave, and looked back. "Get well soon," he smiled slightly, attempting to be encouraging. You smiled back awkwardly, still confused about what was going on.
The doctor started ordering the nurses around, getting them to prep for some sort of tests. One of them rolled another machine in, which they used to scan you. They did lots of other tests, and though the doctor explained what they were doing, you still didn't understand what was happening.
Your mind was foggy, and the few fragmented memories you had confused you. You couldn't help but wonder, even if you did have amnesia, wouldn't that man seem at least a bit familiar? It seemed like you were important to him, so why didn't seeing him evoke some sort of emotional response? You were missing a piece of this puzzle, and it frustrated you.
"Uh hey," you said to the doctor when she announced they were done, "who was that man?"
"Lord kazekage," she answered.
"I picked up on that." you said sarcastically, "is that his name? Why'd he seem so worried about me?"
"His name is Gaara, and he's your husband."
What?!?!?
