Prologue:

My father always told me never to walk the streets alone at night, he would always mention the dangers of the dark ally ways and street corners illuminated by the dim lamp overhead. I never listened to him of course being the stubborn teenager I am I never took his warnings into account until now, as I rush along the dark road I can see my pale face in old shop windows and still feel the lurking presence behind me. I can hear the footsteps echoing along the brick footpath as the snow begins to fall above me not thick enough to settle yet, my heart rate picks up as I now realise for sure I am not alone. My broken down house is another two blocks away not far I would normally think but it's different when someone or something else is amongst you I pick up the pace hoping maybe I can outrun the presence. The footsteps begin to fade and I feel silly at the thought of how dramatic I really am but these thoughts have soon vanished as I now face a hooded figure leaning against the next street lamp. I run. As fast as I can I turn and run the opposite way not knowing where I'm going but certain I don't want to be near the lurker any longer. My footsteps now crunch against the soft snow that has begun to cover the floor with it's glistening flakes, how late am I? If the snows begun to settle I know for sure my father won't be happy. The masked man is far behind me I still don't know if they've chased me or looked for me but I know they won't find me here, abandoned wasn't just a nickname for my old childhood park no one came here anymore except for me.

I sit here on the snow covered grass letting my thoughts drift and not wanting to think of how much trouble I'll be in when I return to the place I call home. I know my father he'll worry about the last raid that went terribly wrong when I lost my mother to the others who think their doing our planet good. I don't know what I believe anymore whether or not we should just hand ourselves in and become like the rest or continue the rebellion that flipped our lives around, it just doesn't seem worth it anymore and I don't know for how much longer I can withstand running from it all. My thoughts are interrupted as I hear a cry far off in the distance I know from many years of experience that is no human sound I get to my feet as fast as possible knowing deep down I can't take on a lurker but I won't go down with out a fight.

My eyes alert I search my surroundings for the hooded figures that will surely have me dead within seconds but I can't seem to spot the airy beings anywhere among the white field, I let out a yelp as my world is flipped on a diagonal and I feel a large weight pull me to the cold ground. We toss and turn while I'm trying to free myself from it's grasp but it's to strong for me or should I say him as the male lets out a grunt when my elbow connects with his jaw. He pulls my arms behind my back straddling me underneath his heavy build "watch it or you'll end up like the rest of your friends." I whimper as his grasp tightens on my wrist "stop!" I yell not caring who can hear me "please I'm not one of them!" The hold loosens a little as he hears my human voice ringing true and clear "You're lying." He spits out as he roles me over so I'm flat on my back. Taking a flash light from his back pocket he brings it to my face, looking me up and down from my ragged brunette hair to my pale grey eyes. He watches me for a bit and takes in my emotions noticing how I wince at the weight on my ribcage releasing me he shuffles back and stares at me in awe. As we take in each other him with his dirty blonde hair and vibrant green eyes we both know that we aren't alone anymore, and that things are going to become extremely difficult for us. "Carden?" I say aloud as he whispers my name in the same moment "Ria?"

Right Hi!

This is my first story on

Wattpad and I've wanted to write one for a while but never really worked up the courage and nothing stuck that I knew I would be interested in writing, till recently. I love the plot for Divergent, The Host, Hunger Games etc. the sort of war and futuristic love story so I thought I could give it a try. Sorry if my grammars off and something doesn't make sense I'll get my editor to help with everything as best as we can, hope you like this short little beginning more too come! Thank you cx
