Take Care

You were laying face-down on the bench in one of the citizen carriers, your gray tail hanging off the side of the seat. The ears atop your head were a similar color but drooped with exhaustion. The battle against Ultron was finally finished, it had been exhausting.

You were exhausted. You weren't comfortable with many weapons, so you relied on your wolf form during the battle.

It had worked efficiently, but there had been times that walls and various other things had exploded, sending you sprawling and debris everywhere.

On the bright side, you had gotten Natasha back, and two more members on the team. Well, one of them was in Doctor Cho's machine, but he'd be fine. Probably.

Natasha put a hand on your shoulder, pulling you from your thoughts, and your attempt at a nap as you flinched, a sharp intake of breath followed.

"Go get checked out before I make Steve carry you to the infirmary," her tone left no room for argument.

You didn't move, you were as comfortable as you could be.

"Kayla, come on," she gave you a light shove.

You groaned in response.

"Hey Steve!" Natasha then called.

You lifted your head to glare at her. "I'm fine Nat," you snipped at her.

It was too late though, Steve was already jogging over, "Yeah Nat?" he asked, standing in the doorway of the small transport carrier.

It had landed about an hour ago, but it was quieter than the rest of the hellicarrier, so you had stayed.

"Kayla needs to go to medical, but she won't get up and go," Natasha complained, nudging your tail with her foot.

You growled at her, "There are people who need tending to with worse injuries. I'm fine," you told her, ignoring the pain that was almost everywhere. You felt like one giant bruise.

"Good luck Steve, you're going to need it," Natasha informed him, patting him on the shoulder as she cleared out of the carrier.

Steve crouched beside you, gently pulling you up into a sitting position. You slumped forward, Steve caught you.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice full of concern.

You gave a small groan, "You're comfortable," you decided, snuggling into him. Your eyes closed.

You felt Steve pick you up bridal style before you let the darkness consume you.

You woke up the next day, and you felt better energy-wise, but you still felt like shit overall.

You sat up, taking note that there was no one there and that your arm was in a sling and your leg was in a cast. There was also a crutch leaning against your bed. You grabbed the crutch, shakily getting to your feet before hobbling out of the room.

You knew you were no longer in the hellicarrier as soon as you left the room, the windows revealed the New York skyline. You had to be in the tower at this height.

You hobbled to the elevator, which took you to your floor. You made your way to your room, changing out of the horrendous hospital gown into something more comfortable.

You winced as you had to strain your shoulder to put on a hoodie, you put the sling back on and made your way to your living room.

Steve was standing in the middle of the room, "You were supposed to stay in the infirmary!" he scolded, darting to your side.

"I'm fine Steve, I'm not dying," you snapped at him, pushing past him and making your way to the couch.

"What are you doing?" Steve questioned as you sat on the couch, pulling a couple of blankets, that were draped over the back of it, over you.

"Relaxing," you informed him simply as Natasha exited the elevator.

She had a pill bottle in her hand, "You forgot this Kayla," she said, tossing the bottle at Steve before the elevator doors closed.

Steve looked down at the bottle, "It says to take one of these every eight hours," he informed you.

He disappeared into your kitchen before coming back with a bottle of water and a pill in his hand. He opened the water bottle for you as you took your medicine.

"I can take care of myself Steve," you told him.

He gave you a look, "Don't argue with me. How's your leg?"

You gave him a withering look, "It's fine," you told him shortly, reaching for the remote.

Steve quickly grabbed it for you and handed it to you.

You rolled your eyes at him before turning on Netflix.

You scrolled through it for a few moments before settling on 'Supernatural', you started it over from the pilot so Steve could watch it too.

You drifted off to sleep not long after the episode started.
