***Chapter 1***
"Captain's log. Star date 2415.6. Mr. Sulu has put us in an orbit around an unknown planet. We have been receiving distress signals from the surface of the planet and have been ordered by Star-fleet to investigate."
"Jim," Bones said, "don't you think it's a little odd that we are receiving a signal from a planet that hasn't even been explored, yet has our frequency?"
"The doctor is correct, Captain," Spock stated from his post, "it is not logical for there to be a distress signal. However, we must follow Star-fleets orders and regulations."
"Why you pointy ear bastard!" Bones exclaimed.
I smiled from my Captain's chair. If you didn't personally know them, you'd think they were the worst of enemies. I got up, deciding to calm down the argument.
"Gentlemen, please. Arguing isn't going to help anyone," I told them, "Mr. Spock, have you picked up anything on your sensors?"
"M class planet, oxygen- nitrogen atmosphere, scattered vegetation, no life forms," he reported.
"Well, then it must have been a ghost sending us a message," I smiled, "Mr. Spock, Bones, Chekov. Scotty, I will contact you every 20 minutes. Oh and tell Lt. Kyle Marker to meet us in the transporter room," I told Uhura.
-Transporter Room-
"Ahh, Lt. Marker, are you enjoying being head of security?" I asked him.
"Yes, Captain, thank you for recommending me for this position," he explained.
I walked over to the transporter panel to make sure that the correct coordinates were punched. Then, I joined the others on the pad.
I could hear Bones grumbling about how scrambling a person's molecules is just not natural.
"Energize," I said.
The transporter room was the last thing I saw until we were beamed down onto the planet's surface.
"Spread out," I commanded, "set phasers on stun. Report back here in ten minutes."
We each went into different directions. I started out north, on the lookout for anything unusual.
The plant life was very odd. The petals were vibrant colors and some were shaped like squares and looked like they were spinning like a pinwheel. The stems and leaves were an ordinary green, but they were striped with yellow and pink.
I scanned the area, looking for anything or anyone that was in trouble enough to signal a starship.
"Ahhhhh!" I heard a cry coming from my left. That was the direction Chekov had gone.
Racing towards him, I heard a loud snap and then Chekov cry out in pain.
I jumped over a boulder and landed on someone. I quickly got up and aimed my phaser at him.
"Captain!"
I glanced to my right and saw Chekov laying on the ground. I looked back at his attacker and saw that he was unconscious.
Still with my phaser trained on the man, I walked backwards slowly to Chekov. I bent down and asked, "where are you hurt?"
"My leg, Captain. He broke it like it was a twig.
"Jim," Bones said as he and Mr. Spock arrived at the scene, "what happened?" Then seeing Chekov on the ground with his leg bent awkwardly, grabbed his medical bag and started to check him out.
"I've never seen anything like it," Bones stated in awe, "whoever that is," he pointed to the unconscious man, "broke his leg cleanly in half."
"Alright," I said and flipped my communicator open, "beam us up Scotty, and have a medical team and two security officers standing by."
