Abraham Lincoln

A young boy born in the middle of the state Kentucky, living in a dirt floor cabin was soon to be the President of the United States and make a huge difference in American History. Abe was known for a lot from his nickname "Honest Abe" known to never tell a lie. Some more interesting things about Abraham Lincoln is that Abraham was the first President of the United states to fight for women's right to vote. Lincoln was a licensed bartender. Abraham Lincolns son was saved from a train accident by Edwin booth, the brother of his fathers assassin, John Wilkes Booth. And one of the most interesting is that Abraham Lincoln had NO college degree and lived with only 18 months of formal schooling, and yet became the president of the United States of America. he fought for the abolition of slavery to women's right to vote.

"Lincoln served on the Illinois State Legislature for several terms. During the time he studied the law and began to work as a lawyer. He ran for the U.S. Congress in 1845. He won the election and served as a congressman for one term. After serving as congressman he continued to work as a lawyer. Later, Lincoln ran for the U.S. Senate, he did not win but he did gain national recognition for his arguments against slavery during the debates. In 1860 Lincoln ran for president of the United States. He was a member of the fairly new Republican party which strongly apposed any of the southern states to secede (leave the country). The Republicans were also against slavery. They said they would allow slavery to continue in the southern states, but that would that it would not be allowed to spread to new U.S. states or territories." -("Biography President Abraham Lincoln")

Abraham Lincoln was a determined man on making a difference. The steps he took to free slaves was incredible, he gave his life for the union, slaves and the freedom of man and women in the U.S.A. Lincoln fought for the rights of African Americans while leading the Union "North" through the civil war. Abraham Lincoln is very well known for his speech at Gettysburg during the civil war. It is known to be one of the most powerful speeches in United States history. In the Gettysburg Address Abraham Lincoln speaks about freedom for all. "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." ("Basler P. Roy") Saying that slavery is wrong and that African Americans are just as human as White people. "In Giving freedom to the slave, we assure freedom to the free — honorable alike in what we give, and what we preserve. We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best, hope of earth."— ("Basler P. Roy") A quote given by Abraham Lincoln sent to Congress in order to give freedom to the slaves and delivered the freedom that the constitution promised to all men equal.

On the January 1st, 1863 Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, an executive order declaring that all persons held as slaves, within the rebellion states, shall be free from there enslavers. Here is a article I found that helps describe how Abraham Lincoln made a difference in USA History forever with the Emancipation Proclamation. ""When the American Civil War (1861-65) began, President Abraham Lincoln carefully framed the conflict as concerning the preservation of the Union rather than the abolition of slavery. Although he personally found the practice of slavery abhorrent, he knew that neither Northerners nor the residents of the border slave states would support abolition as a war aim. But by mid-1862, as thousands of slaves fled to join the invading Northern armies, Lincoln was convinced that abolition had become a sound military strategy, as well as the morally correct path. On September 22, soon after the Union victory at Antietam, he issued a preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that as of January 1, 1863, all slaves in the rebellious states "shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free." While the Emancipation Proclamation did not free a single slave, it was an important turning point in the war, transforming the fight to preserve the nation into a battle for human freedom."" ("Emancipation Proclamation")

Abraham Lincoln is considered the best President in United States history. From fighting for women's rights to fighting for rights of the slave. His accomplishments went outside of becoming president, that being president was just one more step in life to making a difference that changed America. Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth on the 15th of April, 1865 at ford theater in Washington D.C.. Abe's life was stopped young but the story and changes in America he made will last forever.
