Stars. So beautiful and ever-moving among the void. Which beckoned and swayed like an ever-shifting ocean. The murmurs and whispers sang the song unheard by man, like the deep oceans of home, creaks, and moans with the single siren in the distance. It felt like I was swimming but without the wetness. The purple haze of the end glossed over everything, beautiful. Just perfect. Until the void beckons you.

It had been for... I can't remember how long. Pushing and calling me to embrace the void. I had seen others around me fall victim to its whispers. Turning to dust and stars that make up the void. I saw the bodies of others turn and change to mingle with the void before just disintegrating entirely. But I lasted. I persevered. My will was indomitable, but my body changed to match the void. It would not take my mind. My body could not withstand the void. I still felt a spear clenched in my fist as I resisted the call of the void. Sometimes it was subtle, a gentle whisper in my ear. Other times was like a wild animal clawing its way through my mind. Unlike the others, who screamed and squirmed. I fought back. I would not fall victim to the void like others before me.

However, a wise man would not sit here willingly. I knew one day I would be caught off guard. One day my spear would break, and I would soon join the others. But every movement in the void was met with agonizing pain, searing shards as small as hairs ripping and tearing through my flesh at such a rate not even ten thousand blades could. But I had a plan. It always approaches from behind you, then the whispers start. I had one shot, and I had to make it count. I waited, preparing my will for the trap that I would spring.

Then I heard the murmurs. It got louder and louder until I swore it was right in my ear.

"come to us"

"the time has come"

"you may rest"

"you can stop fighting now"

I felt its touch graze the back of my head. Then I struck. I whirled around with all the might I had, launching my spear through the void. It struck... something... A crack opened in the purple haze as beams of white light flooded through. It flailed and squirmed violently like a fish struck by a spear in a river, the spear failing wildly in its target. The whispers turned to wails and howls of pain, like that of a dying animal. I swam through the void, trying to ignore the pain that succumbed to my body. I gripped the spear and pulled myself to it. Planting my feet around the crack in the void as I felt a solid yet flesh-like substance meet them.

"I'll stop fighting when I say Im done fighting," I said, staring at the invisible entity. Gripping the spear with both hands as I twisted it. The creature howled in pain once more.

"I AM MY OWN MASTER! I will not fall victim to others! For as long as im breathing, I lead myself where I wish to! You. Are. No. Exception!" I twisted it further with each word. I could feel the searing pain lessen with each twist.

"NOW, YEILD!" I shouted, shoving the spear deeper into whatever creature was on the other end. I felt a force knock me away with a mighty blow across the chest. The spear was still clenched in my hands. The wound the spear was once in grew brighter and brighter as I stopped moving and began slowly but then quickly moving towards it. I tried to swim away but to no avail, as my vision was flooded with white and then black.

I awoke on an island, still within the void, on an unknown substance that mimicked the void. My head pounded as I sat up. My eyes fell upon a beast that looked like no other I had seen before. Its head was wolf-like, but with large arms that appeared to be on fire with the void itself, its rear was not visible to me. But the wound on its chest signified it was the very same one I had wounded earlier. Without hesitation, I jumped to my feet, spear in hand, and pointed it at the beast. It looked at me with pitch-black eyes filled with stars from the void, and a low growl escaped its throat. It did not phase me.

"you do not scare me, beast! I have wounded you. Which means you can be killed. Anything that can be killed is of no threat to me. Now yield!" I yelled, inching closer to the beast.

The beast's growl ceased, stood up, and began circling me, not in a hunting manner but in an investigative manner. Its rear legs resembled that of a dragon. It moved on all fours. The whispers from the void returned, but in such an amount it was unintelligible, like a million voices talking at once.

I had had enough of this. I gripped the spear with both hands and moved to smack the beast with the blunt bottom end. It struck the beast's face and was knocked onto its side. I rushed it and stomped my foot on its neck. The spear's tip rested inches from its eyes.

"My will is indomitable! No beast shall scare or control me! Now SUBMIT!"

The beast tensed body relaxed as it vanished into dust and stars. The cloud floated around the air, flowing with the wind I couldn't feel Before slamming into my chest. Going into me as I felt the same searing pain as before, but it shifted into strength. My hands turn from a pale black into the purple haze of the void. My eyes pierced through the veil as I saw the islands of the ends, small specs miles upward from where I was. I felt powerful. But weak at the same time. My head grew light as the stars of the void grew so bright they blinded me. Next, I woke. I was stranded on an island of end stone.

This was my start. All memories of before this had long faded from memory. The only remnant was the whispers that guided me and the name I was given by the void.

The void tamer.
