"Oh, so this is where you've been every day after school." The redhead stops in front of the two of you with her arms crossed. She has a curious yet leery look on her face. You shrink against the tree, feeling like she's going to pierce through your very soul with those eyes. "Who is this girl?"

"Oh, Mahiru, hi!" Nagito blinks. "I, uh, didn't expect to see you here. Did you follow me?"

"Of course I did. I noticed that you were sneaking off every day after school. Knowing you, I was worried you were up to no good." She leans forward. "I talked to Nekomaru and Akane about it and they both agreed I should follow you to make sure you aren't up to anything nefarious. Even though we don't all really attend class, I still feel like we owe it to the school to make sure you don't cause more trouble than it's worth. Anyway, who is this?" She has been looking at you the entire time she's been addressing Nagito. You feel anxious beneath her prying gaze.

"Ah, yes, this is (y/n)!" Nagito introduces you. He has the widest grin on his face. "She's my best friend! Even though she isn't an Ultimate like you guys, I quite enjoy her company and I think highly of her ability to continue meeting with me every day."

Mahiru's suspicion is replaced solely by curiosity now. "Wow, you have a best friend now? That's impressive." She turns to address you for the first time now. "How did you meet him? What compelled you to become friends with him?"

Although Nagito is smiling, you're admittedly insulted on his behalf. You knew that his classmates and fellow students all think he's a weirdo but you wish they'd be more willing to keep their mean thoughts to themselves. You tell him how you met him, explaining that you like his personality even if you think it's weird. However, you're unsure if you're getting your point across, given how your shyness is making you meeker rather than sharp. You also hold back the fact you think it's rude that she and her classmates were spying on the boy behind his back.

After you're done telling her everything, Mahiru's stiffened posture seems to relax. "Oh, I see. Well, I can't say I'm not surprised by this. But I'm kind of happy for Nagito. It's nice to see him with a friend despite how...eccentric...he can get."

"I was just about to take (y/n) to the library back at the academy." Nagito rests his hand on your shoulder as he addresses his classmate. "Say, Mahiru, do you know what the rest of the class is up to right now? I wouldn't mind introducing her to the others."

"Well, I'm one of the only students who actually shows up." Mahiru shrugs her shoulders. "Mikan went to the infirmary to take care of a few students who were injured in gym. Actually, I think Akane might be one fo those students...she was showing off there at lunch, last I heard from her, and she had a little bit of a limp when she came to talk to me. I saw Teruteru in the dining hall today, helping out with making food. Hiyoko got into an argument with some girl in the hallway. Otherwise, I have no clue where the rest of the class is."

"Ah, I see. Well, I won't go out of my way to look for them. I'm sure they're doing more important things right now." Nagito takes his hand off your shoulder, still smiling cheerfully. "Besides, I just wanted to take (y/n) to the library for something to do together. I wanted to show her what kind of books our amazing school has to offer!"

"Well, I'll go tell Nekomaru and Akane that you don't seem to be up to anything stupid. Although, I'm not sure where Nekomaru went after I talked to him." Mahiru begins to walk away. "Come on, then. You might as well just follow me if we're going to the same building anyway."

Nagito nods and the two of you walk after the girl. You're curious about her and wouldn't mind getting to know more about her life as a Hope's Peak student. You're not sure what her talent is, though you think it might have something to do with the camera that's slung over her neck. You're certainly too nervous to ask!

Your heart begins to beat faster as you get closer and closer to the prestigious school. Never would you have ever dreamed of walking onto the grounds of Hope's Peak Academy. You're just an ordinary student who has only planned on just getting by after school. You're not someone who has a talent that can be cultivated and honed in a way that changes society. Now, however, your wildest dream of walking onto the property is about to become somewhat true. Even though you're not there as a student, you're the friend of an atendee. That meant something, at least to you. Of course, you know by now that Nagito doesn't see it in that light. To him, his luck is an ability, yes, but not a useful talent deserving enough for him to end up at Hope's Peak Academy. He doesn't see himself as special and he has a clear infeorioty complex when it comes to them. Still, you see him in a special light, and that's all that matters to you. He's your best friend and he is unique. He's worthy of a place at the academy in your eyes!

"Well, (y/n), we're almost there!" Nagito smiles at you as the two of you cross the street behind Mahiru. "Are you excited? It's not often someone ordinary like you gets to go into the library! Well, other than reserve course students, naturally. They get to wander on the property. Anyway, I'm sure you're love the library. I mean, it's run by the Ultimate Librarian herself! It's truly splendid and has books on every topic you can ever dream of!"

Nagito continues to ramble on but you find yourself feeling nervous as you step onto the property. For the first time, you'll get to experience what it's like to be within the walls of Hope's Peak Academy.
