Into a room you stepped. To your knowledge, Master Ciel had asked for you, saying he needed to deal with a matter that was very important, and refused to say much more than that. Cryptic, yes, and extremely vague, but that was how the Earl of Phantomhive worked. It was dark, very dark, and with only moonlight to guide you among the various pieces of furniture placed among the room, it didn't help your trying to traverse the already small room. You just hoped you weren't in trouble.
You attempted not to accidentally knock any items over, or fall for that matter, not wanting to be chastised or reprimanded for it. You made a quick note that near large bed, sitting closely in the center of the room and the rather large window, you must have been made your way into Ciel's room.
You paused. This wasn't a proper meeting at all....Mey-Rin could not have been right leading you into the Master's room.
That would mean—
With a sharp bang, the door shut closed behind you, making you inhale sharply in surprise. You know you are not alone, but who else is in the room with you...? If the Earl caught you in his room...you shook your head quickly, not wanting to think of the consequences. You couldn't lose this job...not after all this time.
After all, you quite frankly had nowhere else to go should you be removed from your position. Your eyes darkened with the memories of your mother leaving you at the foot of the estate, saying she would only be gone on a few errands and would be back for you soon..only to never return. Abandoning you there, in a strange country, with a strange boy only a few years older than yourself who you would later come to serve.
You had come to terms with it much later in life, but never came so far as to decide you forgave your Mother. You could never forgive her, but you would not allow her ruin your life. Perhaps working as a housemaid wasn't the most desirable occupation, but it promised payment and housing until you could work your way up in the world.
After all, your very own master was only a year older than you now, and ran a business far larger than himself.
Swallowing the bile rising in your throat, you blinked, trying to adjust to the dim lighting of the room. At least it calmed your nerves. Hopefully Mey-Rin would return after realizing her mistake...
You jumped at the sound of humming; a gentle and serene tune, only to quickly grow dark and off-key. You knew the song yourself, hesitantly humming along with the stranger.
You had heard it plenty of times since you had come to work at the Phantomhive Estate.
You admit in your thoughts, thinking back to the past, that it had been a strange to you when Ciel had gladly taken you in, requesting you to work as a housemaid. You were appalled, but also pathetically desperate at first glance, and upon finding yourself broke, with no place to go, you gladly (although not quite humbly), eventually accepted the offer.
Then only a girl of twelve years, you had found yourself wiser than your years; although a childish spirit took root in your soul. You had a fondness for games and sweets; although it was not something you had been privileged enough to have often in your previous lifestyle.
Perhaps it was a blessing, rather than a curse, to be abandoned here, of all places. You were in better standing then you ever could have been with your Mother, at least you assumed so. You had only spent a manner of four short years with her before she gave you up, but now you realized, perhaps she hadn't abandoned you. She had given you a chance.
That was until you met Ciel. Upon accepting your position, you had expected to watch over a child of misfortune, a product of his...well, unfortunate past, spoiled by large sums of money and power, to be annoying and bratty, but on the contrary, Ciel was...different.
